Good value for money, clean and comfortable.
This wasn't exactly the 5* hotel I was expecting, but it was very clean and comfortable, though basic, but still very nice. The pools were great, as was the food and bar service. I had no complaints at all about this hotel, and its proximity to the beach and walking distance to the main strip were perfect for us.More
Good Family Hotel, Excellent Location
The location of the hotel is excellent. If you turn right out of the hotel you are at the far end of the main strip of Sunny Beach where all the shops, bars, clubs, restaurants ect are. If you turn left there is a fab beach bar with a laid back feel. A short walk down the beach you will reach Sveti Vlas which is a quieter resort than Sunny Beach. The hotel is large, aesthetically pleasing and very well maintained. Food and drink are plentiful, if not a little repetitive, but then so are most all inclusive's and you will not be short of good places to eat within walking distance if you do fancy a change. In my opinion, it is without a doubt the best looking and best kept large hotel in Sunny Beach.More
Booked an all inclusive holiday through Thompson. We were travelling as a couple. First off, location was fantastic. About a 5 minute walk from the main strip of Sunny Beach, so was a nice mix between being close to the strip, but far away enough from the noise/hustle and bustle of it all! Also, if you walk from the pool to the back of the hotel, you are right on the beach! Literally seconds away. The beach is beautiful soft sand, with the usual attractions. The Hotel itself is modern, easy on the eye, and well organised and signposted in multiple languages. I can honestly say i have never been to such a CLEAN hotel! Rooms, restaurants, bars and lobby were always immaculate! At one point, while we were sitting down by the pool we noticed the maids hoovering curtains and the walls out side of the balconies (not sure why but hey!) Plenty of staff around to clear the tables and drinks etc at meal and entertainment times in a prompt manner to which was very impressive. If you went to a table where someone had just been sitting, it was cleared within minutes. The two pools were great, although very cold! One was more of a family friendly pool so we didn't really visit that one, the one we used was large and deep and was, for the amount of people there, rarely busy. Great for a few laps or just to cool off! The staff were amazing, all very efficient and friendly. The bar staff were particularly brilliant, recommending drinks to us when we were not sure what to order, sometimes even doing shots with us(hope this doesn't land any in trouble!) and were very efficient and fair at busy times. The drink selection was plentiful, some house spirits, some were branded. The beer on tap was delicious. Lots of cocktails on offer, which, sometimes when you go all inclusive isn't always the case. Entertainment staff were very energetic and funny, daytime activities included table tennis, shooting, pool yoga etc. we tried some things and enjoyed the ones we did. The staff do go round the pool asking you to join in, but are not pushy in anyway. Restaurant staff, as mentioned are very good in what they do also! The food was excellent, lots of choice on offer, themed nights and a couple of speciality restaurants. The Asian restaurant is a gem! Delicious food, and a welcome change to the buffets. My GF is a vegetarian and whilst there was a fair bit of choice for her, some of it was not to as quite as high standard as the food i had, unfortunately. There is plenty of "regular food" like Pizza and burgers for children or for those who are fussy eaters! Rooms were a decent size, and whilst we weren't very high up (3rd floor) we had a lovely view of the beach, and the sea. As mentioned before, the room was cleaned daily to an immaculate standard. The beds were comfy, however the "double" beds were just two singles pushed together which was slightly annoying! The balcony, whilst being small was serviceable enough for a couple of chairs and a table, so was ok for us whilst we had a few drinks before going out. The bathroom was lovely and again a decent size, no bath, but the shower was sort of like a wet room with a partition and was a decent sized head and decent power. Overall, this is pretty much the best hotel we've stayed in, and whilst we've never gone to the same place twice, we will more than likely be visiting again with my 7 year old son this year, as we loved it that much. I'd recommend Sunny Beach, and in particular this hotel to anyone. If all Riu hotels are to this standard we would be confident in booking to stay in another one anytime. Thanks to all the staff there for making our first trip to Bulgaria unforgettable!More
Have stayed here twice for a week each time and would stay again. Spacious clean rooms great facilities and lovely staff. Plenty of selection in the resteraunts. Good location. Had a street view room both times with the 'half built hotel' view which I don't mind there's lots more to see than the building across the road. don't be put off I prefer this view there's lots going on if you like to sit and have a drink in the balcony. The staff are very hard working great customer service. Overall a great stay. I'm sure I'll be back again :)More

The location of the hotel is excellent - on the beach (albeit a public one) and surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants in every direction so perfect for an evening stroll. The shops all sell fake goods if that's your thing although nothing seemed to be quite as cheap as I'd imagined. The hotel itself is modern in design and very clean although we found the bathroom colour scheme was not to our taste and could do with an update. The pool areas were good, very clean and plenty of sun beds no matter what time of day. There were lots of fab activities going on throughout the day, we took part in rifle shooting, football, water aerobics, bingo and shuttle board but we didn't enjoy the evening entertainment as much. As has been said before, the staff tried their best but the shows they put on were very old fashioned and quite amateurish. They were a wonderful bunch of people and it's such a shame they didn't have better material to work with. On the second night of our stay my husband and I tried the Bulgarian restaurant and the food was amazing. We had planned to return again a couple of nights later only to find it was closed since it was near the end of the season (late August, early September???!!!). Disappointed, we booked into the Asian restaurant but were so unimpressed we left without finishing our very salty meals and headed over to the main restaurant. The food here was fairly standard all inclusive fayre with a good selection of salads and desserts and even the occasional chocolate fountain. The restaurant was always busy and bustling with people which made it a little noisy at times. Drinks were self serve in the restaurants and the wine was very nice. At the end of our stay, upon checkout, there was some confusion over payment for our room safe and we found the manager to be quite rude and intimidating which was not a great end to an otherwise fantastic stay at the Helios. I would say it's definitely one of the best hotels in Sunny Beach, in fact we wandered around the grounds of the Iberostar (which we had previously been considering when booking) and decided we had definitely chosen the right hotel as the pool areas at the Iberostar were tiny, shaded and every inch was crammed with sunbeds. Two final points - take a trip to beautiful Nessebar but don't use the boat as it is expensive (I think we were overcharged!) and watch out for huge jellyfish in the sea! More
