The holiday started with the drop off at the bottom of the road as a previous review mentioned, which we didn't mind and thought rather funny. We was greeted by a very friendly man (George the Manager) who immediately apologised for the little trek we encountered. George gave us some directions to the little village of Piskopiano for something to eat at 11.45pm. After a 2 minute stroll we came across some lovely restaurants and bars. The following morning we were greeted by two young ladies Katerina, a diamond who never stopped working, a Grafter in a every way, cleaning rooms, gardening the lot. Emanoyela the pizza and coffee expert who is also lovely and couldn't do enough to help. George is great, very genuine and will help you with anything. The apartments are basic but very clean, bedding/towels changed every 2 days. The view from the pool is superb and at at this time of the year very pieceful too. All together, a great holiday made by the staff and great food from any of the restaurants at a very reasonable price.👍More
Sunshine and Great Views
I fancied a few days relaxation from work in the sunshine. And this is what I got. Comfortable apartment close to the pool. The apartment block has great views of Hersonissos. Within a 5 minute walk of the main street of Piskopiano with a great selection of restaurants and bars. Excellent service from the manager George, who I had a nightly pint of beer with in front of the Sky football match. Overall an enjoyable time was had.More
Not as expected
Well where do I start........firstly we took our previousy booked transfer to the apartments....or so we thought. At approx 3am we arrived in piskopiano. The driver stopped and out we got. We asked where the apartments were and he pointed up the road and said "go straight" so we did.....backwards and forwards 4 times up the road, suitcases in tow, in the dark, very tired and getting rather worried that we were dumped in the middle of nowhere and may be stranded. We took it in turns to try down a narrow side street, even down some steps but we still couldn't find it. Getting rather agitated and angry we walked one last time up the road, around the corner, up another hill and BINGO there it was. We found it! I managed to locate the reception to which a note was on the door saying "welcome. Your room is 105 first floor opposite pool key in door enjoy your stay! How bad is that? So in we go. Room seemed clean and inviting. We were so tired we were just glad to lay our head. So as the sun came up we could see exactly where we were. Admittedly the views are spectacular but I hate to say that the room was very very basic. I have stayed in many budget apartments but this one takes 1st place!!!!! As the days passed we found out that hot water was not always available when you wanted it so I took many a cold shower. Basic cooking facilities tiny cups you can't even get your finger in and 2 cooker rings. Oh and a kettle ........ but you either plugged it in by the cooker which the lead would only reach to the cooker rings (quite dangerous) or on the dresser. You had no kitchen storage so any food you bought had to be left on the table. Oh and we had ants running around the sink and cooking area too to which I bleached every day to get rid. Beds were hard and uncomfortable. Beds and towels were changed on our 3rd day which we thought was great but then they were not changed again for another 7 days? Overall I must say if you want views go and stay there but if you want something a bit more stay at Dia apartments which are just down the hill but much nicer.More
Somewhere to lay your head, stunning views and a great pool
We were dropped off at the bottom of the hill in the wee small hours after a flight delay, in the pitch black...but intrepid travellers are we (and we had read the reviews) so we trudged up the road...past the barking dog....struggling with a wonky wheeled suitcase (thanks baggage handlers) suddenly you are left with a choice of direction...both are up a steep incline...luckily we were then met and taken to the poolside bar and checked in. The chap (sorry neither introduced themselves) carried my suitcase (small one) up the steps for me...and left my friend to carry her much larger and heavier case all the way to the top (actually standing and watching her struggle) We were however extremely grateful that despite the late hour they prepared us a pizza and a bottle of good wine. First night we slept well. The second night at lights out we found that one light (high up near the ceiling, some kind of emergency light) did not go off....lighting up the entire room, making it very difficult to relax, we mentioned this the next day and were told its emergency lighting (we werent aware of any emergency) and that was that...so for the next 9 nights we clambered up and covered said light with a towel (yes it was safe there was NO heat from the light) and secured it with my belt....brownies you see! also....found that you had to keep the switch for the kettle held down otherwise it wouldnt boil....couldnt be bothered to disturb our hosts again seeing as they obviously werent interested, so simply balanced an ashtray on the switch...worked a treat....and popped off when boiled with a pleasing clatter! The one of us had ONE hot shower...and both of us managed a hot wash each....but! we really didnt mind not having hot water...the weather was glorious and tepid water was refreshing....however neither of us managed to shower without flooding the entire room...talking proper paddling pool flooding...not just a lil splishy puddle. The bins were emptied every day, new loo rolls were left every day (ish) we never ran out anyway and the beds and towels were changed 3 or 4 times during our ten night stay... and the studio kept nice and clean. The walls are THIN we heard upstairs taking a pee regular as clockwork around 11.30 pm every night lol annnnnd we could hear upstairs or next doors aircon most of the night too. This is by no means meant to come across as a negative review, The studio room was perfect, we just wanted somewhere to sleep...and make a coffee in the morning before we went off for the day and somewhere to shower and get ready to go out to eat in the evenings. The location up that hill and all those steps was PERFECT!! We loved sitting on our little terrace with a couple of coffees in the mornings the views are out of this world We swam in the beautifully clean pool most days, but we didnt stay to sunbathe or use the pool bar, maybe this is why we werent on top of the friendly list, we ARE nice friendly girlies honest! so yes...by all means stay here! Studio IS basic...but this is an inexspensive stay....its comfortable and clean....we even got to like the lil quirks!More
A View to a Kill
Spent a fortnight at the Driades and had a fantastic time. As other reviewers have already stated, there are plenty of steps to climb but well worth it if you are fit enough to take on. Positives Great Staff, location, lovely pool and satisfactory accommodation. Need Attention We travelled with Thomas Cook and were dropped off at the bottom of a hill (400m walk up to the apartments) - Perhaps TC could use a minibus and take you up to the entrance! (a Coach is too large to get up there and turn round). The sunbeds are looking a little tired (maybe because we visited end of season), however there are plenty to choose from. The showers run cold if you intend to wash after 8pm, so the earlier you wash the better (more Solar Panels required :) ). Summary Having listed the negatives, this resort is absolutely lovely. The villages of Piskopiano, Old Hersonissos and Koutouloufari all merge along a beautiful street lined with a fantastic selection of Restuarants and Tavernas. Our favourites were Gevski and Gallini, so many to visit though.More
