Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel, staff, service, accommodation & food to a high standard
We stayed here for 1 week in May 2017. We arrived at 9.30pm to a warm and friendly welcome from all of the staff. The room was sea facing with AC and the usual amenities. Free WiFi with good coverage throughout the hotel and outside area. We were there on an all inclusive deal with Thomson TUI and everything went very well. I would definitely recommend this hotel for couples and family.More

Not a 5 * maybe a 4
The glass table on family room was chipped on 2 corners which is really dangerous for a 1 year baby , the bathroom stinks In special when you turn the water on (tap or showers) when you flush the toilet becomes a challenge... the smell is horrible. For all inclusive the food is really good and also drinks (branded ones most of them ) but the waitress need a proper training on customer service , pretending to be nice but they are absolutely fake, only few of them are nice, many times are arguing in front of us or I was waiting on the beach bar for 10 min (10.40am) before we have been acknowledged by someone , the lady at the bar was getting the bar ready, was nice if she was telling us that it will might take few minutes before she will be able to serve. Apart from this , is a nice hotel with lovely food and beach , felling safe and really good for a all inclusive. More
This was not our !st choice hotel our tour operator had to change to the Aquilla because our hotel was not ready my oh my what a great hotel. Its a very big hotel but set over a large area so its feel so it doesn't seem over crowded. We had a bungalow No75 nicely furnished large comfy bed mini bar fridge flat screen telly and patio furnished with table a chair and settee bed linen nd towels changed daily. The grounds of the hotel where well kept with flower beds an well kept lawned areas it was only a short stroll down to the beach with plenty of sunbeds and parasols and the same distance to the swimming pools beach towels are provided and can be changed daily. The hotel staff and on our morning stroll for breakfast we where always greeted with a smile and Kalemera the food in the main restaurant was 1st class always a great choice at all meal times we where always shown to a table of our choice and asked what we wanted to drink (coffee at breakfast wine with our evening meal either glass or a bottle it would be wrong to single out any member of staff to praise but Christos the captain in the main restaurant was great as where all the restaurant staff we went premier all inclusive which seemed a good choice as drinks looked a bit costly we cannot find any negatives with the hotel the only problem was we only stayed a week needed longer had a fantastic time and we will be back.More
This is a great hotel. It's large enough so it doesn't feel crowded but has a good layout so its easy to find everything within a 5 min walk. The grounds are well maintained with lots of lovely flowers shrubs and also herbs.... it smells delightful walking through some areas (the gardeners will cut you some herbs to take home). There's also a huge amount of detail within the grounds which gives it loads of character. The hotel, pools and beach areas are kept really clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. There's a shop on site, but also quite a few a short walk from the hotel. Our bedroom was upgraded to one of the villas which was clean and comfortable. Drinks: we were all inclusive so drinks were not a problem for us. Loads of choice, cocktails made from scratch, beer and spirits were decent as was the house wine. Now, if you are half board the drinks are quite pricey. For example: large local beer â¬5.00, alcoholic cocktails around â¬8.40, Gordon's gin â¬6.50. So if you are a big drinker then I'd definitely go all inclusive. Of course there are bars outside the hotel, these charge about â¬3.50 for a large beer and â¬4 for a cocktail. Food: there is a buffet served in the main restaurant morning, lunch and dinner. The quality is good though it is a bit repetitive. You don't get the same table with waiter every night, so you don't get to build a rapport with the staff. Didn't bother us though. There is also snacks served between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner for all inclusive guests at the cafe outside the main restaurant and also at the taverns. Now my biggest tip if you are all inclusive is to go to the taverns by the main pool. This has a proper menu and you can get pizza, souvkaki, gyros, salads etc as part of the A.I package. It's proper tasty too and gives you a nice break from buffet food. You can pay for this if you're not on the AI package. Also the taverns has themed nights which you have to book in advance with the stAff outside the main restaurant. I'd recommend the Greek or Crete night as they have traditional dancers as part of the night. If you want to eat outside of the hotel i would totally recommend Thavma cafe and cretian food. It's spectacular and a short taxi away â¬10 each way. See the reviews on here. Entertainment: bit hit and miss. I think it could be a bit more upbeat in the evening. There is usually something going on at the lobby bar or taverna. Activities: outside of the main restaurant there is a daily list of activities and entertainment. Outside the hotel there are companies providing excursions at a reasonable price. We did a tour of cretian villages, chania and a military grave yard. This was â¬24 each and was lovely. Chania is gorgeous. You can get bus tickets from the on site shop â¬1.30 ppt each way, there's a bus outside the hotel which will take you to rethmyno old town which is a nice day out. There's also a bus station there so you could get to other parts of crete from there too. Kids: looked like they offered kids entertainment but can't elaborate. Staff are very good with children. I'd definitely recommend this hotel. We spoke to many people who had been to a variety of hotels on the island and they all said this was the best, we would certainly return.More
