Lovely week at the Palmyra
Such a lovely hotel which looks exactly like the online pictures. We stayed for a week as a young couple, and found the location to be perfect for young people wanting to see lots of Zante's beauty and less of the wild Laganas nightlife. The hotel is just off the main road, right next to shops, supermarkets, chilled out bars and lovely places to eat. The beach down the road is incredible, we often went down to swim at sunset which was so beautiful and the water was the warmest I've ever felt! We also hired a quad bike from down the road for 2 days, which we took to a local waterpark, surrounding beaches and further out to the sunset views of Keri. So much better value and far more fun than a taxi! Our room was single bed which included a fridge and TV, as well as paid for safe and aircon, and a balcony overlooking the pool. The hotel restaurant was affordable yet delicious, and a nice variety for breakfast.More

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel 29th May -10th June 2017. It is our second visit and didn't disappoint. The new reception area looks very nice, although the guest rooms could do with updating, particularly the bathrooms as the showers are quite compact. However it is the cleanest hotel you could wish for, the breakfast bar is excellent and the staff are very helpful and obliging. The pool area is also very nice and doesn't get crowded. The hotel is a quiet hotel and so if relaxation is what you are looking for, this is the hotel for you. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel and are already looking forward to our visit next year.More
Do not spoil your holiday!
We decided to book a weeks holiday in Palmyra hotel during the May half term, as we had never been to the area. On arriving to the hotel, we were told that we need to pay extra money for the use of air conditioning and room fridge per day, during 33 degree weather. This was not stated by the travel agent, and we had never been to a hotel that did not have these room basics, which should have been part of the £1000 we paid. As one of our family members was a diabetic, we had no choice but to pay the daily fee to store insulin. The receptionist seemed very complacent and shrugged her shoulders saying that that was the way they ran the hotel. After making our way up to our room, we walked into a very hot, stuffy room that looked like it hadn't been redecorated since the 90s! We booked for 3 adults and we had a double and single bed in a room with no Air con, TV, Kettle, towels, iron, safe. There was barely any room to move with us having to clamber over beds to get across the room. The fridge that we paid for was dirty and barely felt cold at all on the max setting. We did inform reception and was told that nothing could be done until the following morning. We had little choice, as the management was not at all helpful in understanding the need to store insulin in a fridge. Later that day we went for dinner, as we had booked half board. We were then presented with the menu which had 5 main dishes and 4 starters. We expected a buffet, and enquired whether it would be a different menu each day, only to be told that the 5 dishes was all they provided. The menu was bland and did not reflect any proper Greek cuisine. We also had to pay for our drinks and no dessert was provided. When the food arrived, it was far from appetising with either wet, mushy food or dry stale meat. The thought of eating this all week really dampened our expectations. After dinner we then went back to the hotel, to try and get an early night in a hot room. The hotel is supposed to be a non smoking hotel, however the smell of cigarette smoke opposite our room was overwhelming. We did inform reception, only to be told that they have a policy, but people may not stick to it in their rooms. It was a very uncomfortable evening on the flimsy beds. The following morning, we went down to have breakfast. We were met at reception by a male member of staff, who was wanting to talk to us about the fridge, but we told him that we wanted to have breakfast before they cleared the food away, which he was not pleased with.We entered the empty dining area only to find that was hardly anything on offer as many serving plates were empty or with 1 or 2 bits of cheese and cold meat. We had to find the one waitress, who had shut herself in the kitchen, to ask whether she could provide a basic continental breakfast- from her behaviour she seemed frustrated that she had to go and sort the food out, and went back into the kitchen. As we sat down to eat breakfast half an hour later, my mum got up to make a cup of tea and as there was a sugared orange drink which my mum took some in her bottle which contained water. As soon as she sat down the man came out of the kitchen, the man then started shouting to say that we are not supposed to take any drink despite us explaining that the fridge was not working in the room,my mum didn't have any orange drink that was on offer, and also she was a diabetic to which the man was ignorant to. I was concerned that as my mum had no access to a drink, I took her glass of orange juice to dilute her water and the man was angry that I had mixed it into her water. He shouted at us saying he and the waitress was watching us on CCTV, and accused us of stealing juice from the hotel. As I attempted to explain that the juice was what mum had not drank at breakfast, and that as a diabetic it would sugar her water to keep her blood sugar stable during the day. As we had no fridge to buy drinks to store in our room for her, I wanted to ensure she had a bit to last her the morning. We asked that we were allowed to have breakfast in peace, after trying to explain to him the situation. He did not lower his voice and even got the waitress to start shouting and pointing at us in greek, insinuating that she was watching us through CCTV ! We could not believe how we were being treated, and the waitress went over to the door to close it so other guests wouldn't enter to hear the commotion they were making. No matter how I explained to the both of them the need for using half a glass of juice to dilute mums water, they were only interested in shouting at us. We did not want to stay at a hotel that treated their guests with no respect or understanding. Instead we were told that we had stolen the juice made up from sugary concentrate. The man was not only rude and aggressive in his manner, but did not realise the scope of the issue. We said we were going to pack our bags and move to another hotel, which he did not care about. We asked for the money back for the fridge we had to pay a weeks amount upfront the previous day, and he refused as he said he could not give the money back for a broken dirty fridge, without his managers permission. We asked to talk to the manager, but he refused simply saying she was in a meeting and could not be contacted. We were not going to leave without our money being refunded, and he said we would just have to wait the whole day until his manager came back. I said that we wanted to move out immediately and would not budge until our money was rightly returned. He continued to argue and make sarcastic remarks/gestures arguing with everything we had to say.We sat in reception for nearly 2 hrs, then as he knew we weren't leaving without the money, he aggressively said he would give it back once we packed up and moved out. Luckily we were able to find last minute accommodation. After having to find online somewhere to live for the 6 remaining days as quick as we could, we packed our belongings and left. Be weary of this hotel, with rude aggressive staff, shabby dusty rooms, and hidden costs! Zante has beautiful beaches, but Palmyra makes for a nightmare of a setting-do not spoil your holiday here!More
