A great holiday that had some bad points!
OK, despite First Choice website showing mostly pictures of Aqua Bay (far superior, new sister hotel that shares the water park) we were in Planos Bay (more traditional, basic and older hotel) of which there was one picture, very naughty and only leads to raised expectations and disappointment. Many others shared our disappointment at this, in fact the hotel staff told us people complained of this last year and got moved, but this year they were not moving anyone. Once we got over this point (to enjoy our holiday!) we were reasonably happy, the water park is fab, the food great and the rooms clean. One thing I didn't appreciate was that they stock everything you can need from a bar, including branded bottles and spirits, but they are chargeable. The alcohol included in the all inclusive wasn't nice at all, wine awful and spirits weak/watered down. Didn't really bother us as only having a couple at night but still felt it was very poor really. This brings me to an issue that threatened to spoil the holiday, if we had let it. There was a large party (62 I believe) staying at the hotel for a wedding. Not particularly friendly bunch that didn't mix with anyone else, kids running riot etc. Very noisy, constantly shouting to one another across the hotel, socially unaware I'd say! Long story short one of them (female) attacked another guest at the hotel, in front of all kids around the pool. It was disgusting. Our kids were horrified, it culminated in a group brawl and the hotel staff as well as the Tui staff didn't call the police!! The hotel was a very different place once they had left but unfortunately this was late on in our stay. Overall the food was good, water park great, accommodation basic but clean, our room number was 115 and the road noise behind us meant some really noisy nights mainly because the rooms on that side aren't sound proofed, this could and should be fixed easily, Entertainment was totally awful! Bingo???? Weird dance routines, lacklustre entertainment staff, disinterested Tui staff (unless you're spending on trips that are double the price than you can book 2 mins down the road) Would I recommend? Torn on this really, got much better value for money in Turkey, so probably not.More
Amazing place and people :)
My partner and 2 girls (age 9 & 13) have just returned from Planos bay, We went for 11 nights between 26th June - 7th July. When we arrived the receptionist had us ice cold drinks ready, which was a lovely gesture after arriving in UK clothes in 37 degrees heat. Our room was set out perfect as the inner room (Kitchenette) had the twin beds and the double room was next to the balcony, this was also perfect as we could get the girls in bed and then we could relax on the balcony without disturbing them. The room was very very clean and had everything you need for an all inclusive holiday, it had a small stove and full sized fridge which was great to keep drinks cold in. The swimming pool was plenty big enough and very relaxing but we could also go up to the water park (about 1 minute walk) again this was excellent, plenty for the kids to do and adults, lol and I could relax on a sunlounger as there were loads available. The waterpark and pool area were spotless at all times, the staff work so hard and never seem to stop trying to please. Snacks around the pool and waterpark were gorgeous, you could choose from burgers, chip butties, omlettes, salads and rolls amongst many other other items. Entertainment was typical holiday style, always fun though, especially watching Bill do the aqua zumba. The food in the restaurant was very nice always something we liked, even if the girls didn't like the dinner menu they could fill up at the snack bar. I would like to also mention a few of the other staff who really stood out on our holiday. Dana who worked in the restaurant was a gorgeous, lovely, helpful and friendly waitress who couldn't do enough for you, thanks Dana :) xx Stathis and Antonia at the bar were both great and never forgot what drinks you were having, also very friendly people. Sabrina was the lead entertainer and I can honestly say she is such a lovely lady who is so friendly and really made our holiday special, my girls loved her. Hope you are well lovely lady xx And last but definatly not least. Sotiris was such a nice, friendly, helpful guy, he never stopped. If he wasn't cleaning the pool area he was out offering fresh fruit on a platter whilst we were sun bathing, he did a sterling job as the hotel complex was always so so clean. In my opinion he works too hard but that's another story, lol. Again my girls, as we did thought he was amazing and we didn't want to leave all these lovely friends behind when it was time to go home. We miss you all so much and thank you once again for making our stay perfect xxMore
NO COMPLAINS !!
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Planos Bay, (4th July - 11th) couldn't ask for more, Would definitely recommend this hotel, have no complaints whatsoever! Only problem we had was that there is no baby change facilities near pool area. Hotel itself and pool area was spotless and the room was also kept really clean, fresh towels daily. Rooms were a decent size with plenty of room for 4 people, only thing missing was a bath. Food wise well there's something for everyone also no complaints and the snack bar which was open between meal times was a nice little touch and really nice food, plenty of choice and really good service! Water park is literally a 2 minute walk away and was a good set up, Just enough there to pass the day! Hotel mini club was also popular with my 8 year old with a shout out off him to Alena, Sabrina and Makrina :) .. This hotel is mainly focused on family's, So all in all had a fantastic weeks holiday thanks to all the staff that do a fantastic job!More
Great family holiday
My wife myself & 2 children aged 2 & 10 visited planos bay on the 16th June for 2weeks, the hotel is brilliant for families, the food is ok plenty to choose from, staff are really friendly, never had to que for anything, the beach is a 2 minute walk one way & the water park is a 1 minute walk the other, the entertainment staff made our holiday bill, severine & alina never stop, Alina was amazing with our 2yr old girl & she still asks for her now, bill never stops & sev needs to improve his table tennis skills haha, the entertainment always gets slated for not being very good but this is not down to the staff that work there it's more the entertainment they have come in for the evening from 10pm onwards More
Our third stay here
Family of four, myself and wife aged mid 30's, kids aged 4 and 8. Stayed here for two weeks at the end of June. This was our third stay at the hotel in the last 4 years so it's clear we like the place but this year was not as good as previous visits due to the entertainment team (I'll explain later). STAFF: All staff at the hotel are fantastic and work incredibly hard. We asked to change rooms when we arrived as we were very close to the stage area and the reception staff arranged this very quickly without any issue. The restaurant staff are always pleasant and the bar staff even more so. ROOMS: The hotel rooms are what you'd expect for the money you pay. Not really eye catching or anything but more than adequate for a couple of weeks. There's a hairdryer and kettle in there if needed. FOOD: Usually there's a good variety in there but this year it wasn't as varied as previous. The food was always warm and we always found something to eat happily. The kids' options were quite limited this time though and we often found ourselves going forwards and backwards trying to find them something to eat. Breakfast is always good with a full English always available as well as fresh omelettes, pancakes\waffles and croissants etc. Always plenty of fruit available as well. We went to two theme nights at the Waterpark as part of our all inclusive. The Italian one which was nice and the BBQ night which was very disappointing and not at all what you'd expect. There is a BBQ during the day on Sundays at the Waterpark which was miles better than the theme night so I'd happily recommend that. The best meal of the week was the Sunday roast. It was amazing and not one to be missed! POOL: Main pool depth varied from 0.8m to 1.6m at it's deepest. Always worth knowing for anyone with kids who are just learning. Not sure what the toddler pool was but would imagine it was around 0.3 to 0.4m. The pool was always busy, nice and warm and the pool area was always kept clean and tidy. WATERPARK: We spent every day bar one here and it's the main reason that we return to the hotel as often as we do. Our kids absolutely love it. The splash pool area is 0.4m deep and has around 6 or 7 different slides amongst other things. There are also 4 or 5 other slides away from this area for kids that are at least 5 years old and 1.2m upwards. Some of the slides you have to be at least 1.4m tall. There's a large pool area as well which I think is 1.6m deep again. There are three bars where you can get your all inclusive drinks and one of which serves snacks, some of them all inclusive, some charged at a discounted rate. Same with Ice Creams. They're not all inclusive here but you do get a discount from standard prices. ENTERTAINMENT: If I could rate this individually it'd be 1 out of 5. This is where we felt there was a big difference to the last few years. Last year's team was all about having fun and getting to know the guests, building relationships with them etc, making an effort with activities and generally having a laugh, as most people want to do on holiday. This year felt as though it was based around two staff who were treating it as a showcase to further their dancing career. The lead entertainer is new and has taken it upon herself to change simple dance routines and take the personality out of things. We actually found her quite arrogant. God only knows what the two younger girls from the entertainment team (one of which was excellent, think her name was Alaina?) thought of her when she was sat watching them do the mini disco while not lowering herself to get involved. It was quite uncomfortable watching one of the male entertainers suck up to her quite as much as he did as well. It all seemed a bit odd and a stark contrast to last years excellent team. The entertainment itself was pretty boring. There was a mini disco every day at 8:30 until 9:00 and then a lull for half an hour to 45 minutes until an act would appear on stage. This half hour would usually be filled in by some disturbing sort of dancing on stage from the entertainment staff. All of this goes on while the sound system coughs out the odd high pitched shriek and now and then comes to a halt completely. Surely they can fork out on a new system? It's been happening for months apparently. One other thing (nothing to do with the entertainment staff themselves) is that the smell around the stage area in the evening is repulsive. There is some sort of huge land drain adjacent to the hotel that is home to dozens of rats and the smell that comes from there in the evenings is hideous. Towards the end of our holiday it did improve (there was a very strong smell of bleach at one point). Again, there wasn't a smell problem during previous visits so I'm not sure why there is now. Maybe they just need to maintain it a bit more thoroughly TSILIVI: Plenty of lovely places to shop, drink, eat or do whatever, all within walking distance. The sandy beaches are about a 10 minute walk away although you can get to a smaller one nearer the hotel which only takes a couple of minutes, but this one isn't as nice. We played mini golf while we were there which takes about an hour from start to finish. It cost around 25 euros for the 4 of us and is situated along the main road towards the centre of Tsilivi. We had a day trip to Laganas to visit friends. Taxi costs around 20 euros each way. Wouldn't recommend Laganas normally though as it's not a place for families. All in all we had a great holiday at Planos Bay as always but had it been our first visit here and been served up that entertainment then I don't think we would've returned. Fingers crossed if we do go back next year then the entertainment will be back to the higher standards from previous years.More
