Very Honest Review
This is an honest review from a well travelled family with not very high expectations. As a family we make the most of every holiday and will always strive to have a good time. We live for our holidays. After reading the reviews for this hotel, I have to say I feel slightly misled. Good Points. * Great Location * Fabulous beach that is shallow for a very long stretch, great for children. * Stunning views * The hotel is spotlessly clean. All areas are cleaned daily, it's gleaming * On previous reviews people mentioned the rooms and how they needed updating. I found the rooms to be absolutely fine and spotlessly clean. Loads of storage space and coat hangers. Bathroom was also spot on, again old fittings but they worked and we were able to use the toilet and shower, what else do you want? * Free water in the room everyday (great touch) * Tea and Coffee making facilities in the room * Lovely large pool, again this was visibly maintained every day. There is also a nice indoor pool if you fancy getting out of the sun for a while. * Food is available for most of the day. Following breakfast the snack bar opens, it closes again at lunch time when the main restaurant opens, snack bar opens again 3 until 5. There are 2 snack bars one by the pool and one by the beach. I'm not saying that the food is great though. More on this later...... * Staff are very friendly and attentive however this is where I feel misled. People return to this hotel for the staff, that is very clear and most good reviews are based on that however it takes more than good staff to make a great hotel. It is a good hotel, just not a great one. Bad points. * Drinks. Very poor selection. You may think that having numerous flavoured liquors is good however the alcohol content is very low (no I'm not a big drinker) I'd just like to feel I'd got my monies worth. * All drinks are self service. I'm on holiday, I don't want to have to pour my own drinks. The spirits are all laid out on the bar or on a trolley in the restaurant to help yourself. Some people may like that, I don't. It would be nice to have some waiter service, especially at night when watching the "entertainment" or at the very least when eating dinner. Not only are you up and down fetching food, you are then up and down getting drinks. Yes the odd time you get asked if you'd like a drink but that's more luck than anything else. * The glasses. Firstly in the day time they use the cheapest, most flimsy plastic cups I've ever seen. You're lucky if you get back to your sunbed with it still being in tact and not spilt. Not only plastic but very small. At night you can have glasses, but again these are also extremely small, literally a couple of mouthfuls and it's gone, so back up to the bar you have to go. My husband asked for a larger glass which he could see behind the bar, this was for wine and lemonade (which really requires a good size glass) but he was told he couldn't. Not the best service. It really doesn't make any sense considering you can have as many drinks as you'd like. If you wanted to order 5 drinks each that's fine. Just supply decent size glasses. If you drink beer, you can only have that in a half pint glass also. There is a choice of 6 cocktails, again not the best. You could drink all night and not feel like you'd even had a one, something not quite right. The wine would be better suited on the chips!!!! * The ENTERTAINMENT- If you could call it that. You know it's not good when the best night of the week is the quiz and bingo. They only have a weeks programme so if you are staying longer than week, which we did, you get to see the exact same act the following week. The same songs, speech, jokes, the lot. Shocking!! They didn't even offer different greek dancers, they also did exactly the same show as the week before. * Daytime activities. Need a better animation team, guests were just left to get on with it. Aquafit and volleyball everyday! * Food. I debated whether to put this in the good or bad list. I decided on bad simply because of the lack of choice. What was there, was hot, tasty and you could make a meal. The fruit selection was poor as well as the desserts. You can have ice cream at meal times but the children have to pay in the day if they wanted one around by the pool, the first all inclusive I've been to that doesn't offer ice creams through the day. * Sunbeds. There is a sign in reception that states you are not able to reserve sunbeds before 9am. Brilliant!! Go down the first day at 9 to find all the beds taken. People were in fact reserving them from very early in the morning. We do like a sunbed so we decided to do the same. Reserved early every day for 9 days then 2 days before coming home they decide to enforce the rule, only they didn't communicate this. Luckily we could see the porter moving our towels so we went and got them back, for others they came down later to find they had lost their places. Not a great system, communication is key here. The reason for this lengthy honest review is that we didn't pay any less for this holiday than we have for other all inclusives and we didn't feel we received value for money. I'm not quite sure where the money goes in this hotel. They are not putting money back in renovations, quality drinks, quality glasses, quality food or entertainment so someone is getting very rich. Because we make the most of any holiday we did have a good time although we would not return to this hotel. We would most definitely return to Tsilivi and Zante as both are absolutely beautiful.More
Great base and Hotel
My wife and 12 year old daughter have just arrived back from the hotel. We normally go to the bigger all inclusive hotels in Greece with the water parks etc., but are often out of the centre of the resort. We were slightly worried as to what to expect with it not being an Atlantica/Platinum. However this is a cracking hotel its probably a 4.5 rating in my view. The location is fantastic right on the best part of the beach. Cleanliness fantastic, unbelievably hardworking and pleasant staff too many to name. The alcohol for an all inclusive is fine with the option of paying a few Euro's for the branded names. The food is fine but not as much choice as my previous experiences but you wont go hungry, bar settings and pool great. Nice touches free water in rooms topped up daily. Ice Cream etc served on main meals as part of all inclusive but for 2 Euros you can by branded makes during the day. If you want to bring a smile to your childs face get them a chocolate milk shake. Rooms are good size and spotless, only criticism is the bathrooms could be upgraded better but are functional. The beauty of its position is that you have the beach one side and the vibrant town next to you. The town is great some brilliant restaurants and great prices. Would definitely return.More
Great 2 weeks, fabulous hotel, friendly staff, great views, variety of food choice tho is some nice restaurant nearby, always entertainment ie volleyball, aqua areobics during day and live bands, bingo, quizs on an evening. Only down side for us is no family rooms for 4, other than that would def recommend. More
My two sisters and myself arrived at the Zante Maris Hotel to a warm friendly welcome. Our room was a superior double, enough room for three adults. We had sea view, with a wrap around balcony. It was a lovely room, cleaned daily, and the view was beautiful. The hotel is situated right next to the beach, no problems obtaining a sun bed next to pool if needed. The food was buffet style, it was varied, and really good. We were all inclusive, but never felt the need to go out to restaurants, even though there were many to visit quite near to the hotel. The staff here are friendly and helpful, we had a problem with our door key, it was sorted immediately. We wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel.More
One to return to
We had a fabulous holiday. Hotel spotless and the staff are friendly and so hard working. Photos of the hotel don't do it justice. Food is very good quality, opt for the beach restaurant a few times, it's a much more relaxed environment and overlooks the sea which is lovely. The Greek night is particularly good. We chose to eat out a few evenings mainly because although the food is fine, we don't enjoy the 'hotel dining room, queuing at the buffet' experience.I don't think the hotel is at fault here, it must be difficult to provide a relaxed evening meal ambience with so many guests wanting to eat within a couple of hours. There are lots of nice places to eat out, The Olive Tree was our favourite, lovely family Greek taverna style. Being 'all inclusive ' is still worth it even with eating out in the evening, you can eat basically from 8am right through to 11pm if you want to, it means you can have a snack if you miss breakfast or lunch. Drinks are freely available, you can ask for your drink or mix your own with bottles of wine and spirits set out. The staff soon get to know your usual tipple! There is a charge for branded spirits etc but we found the local drinks were absolutely fine. The whole sunbed drama is annoying, I eventually gave in and took my towels out at 7:30 just so we could have a sunbed. At this hour, I usually had a choice of two or three spots. If you want to be round the pool though, perhaps camping out overnight would give you the best chance. As it was, we preferred to sit overlooking the sea, quieter and benefitted from any breeze blowing. Swimming in the sea was just amazing, the sand is soft, the sea clear and blue. You can walk out quite a long way too. The views from the beach are fabulous, The hotel sits in the middle of a bay which is very picturesque,in the distance you can see Kefalonia to one side and the Greek mainland on the other. Hotel evening entertainment: not the best, the Greek dancers were great, some of the rest ok and one in particular appalling. We are also not a lover of Abba, the Beatles, and the other typical songs that are routinely played when on holiday. We are in our late 50's so perhaps staff feel they have to play music for ancients, we prefer much more current music. If you don't want to have lots of teenagers and children around, I would advise not being there after 21st July, there was a marked difference between our first and second week. Reading this through it sounds like a lot of grumbles but we actually loved it , the best holiday we've had. Relaxing, romantic, beautiful island and resort. We will definitely return.More
