Good staff, BAD beach, money grabbing scam
Cons: 1) this resort's beach only wets your ankles. Doesn't go any deeper. Maybe your knee if you're lucky during high tide. It's so the kids are safe. Problem is: you can even get your waist in the water without sitting down on the sand. 2) JUTA is their tourist taxi union that charges huge amounts for a 5 minute drive. Example: $60 roundtrip to go from this resort to the doctor's cave beach only 10 min drive away. It's a tourist ripoff. 3) the holiday inn resort has in-house tour operators will call you in your resort deluxe room at 8AM daily to get money out of you. You complain to the manager Sandra and she talks to the security in charge, and surprise, nothing comes of it. You get another call from money-grabbing tour agents from the hotel lobby the next morning. Awful way to wake up daily on your vacation with the manager Sandra doing nothing to stop it as far as I know. I got no updates on the issue from management. Pros: 1) resort is well organized, on the shoulders of the common man/woman. Staff were great. Antoinette and Sherika in the buffet restaurant are excellent examples of customer service. Kevin at the bar also stands out for his kind and honest ways, and everyone in general on the grounds is very nice and hard working. They're so well organized during entertainment sessions too. 2) resort entertainment is mostly for children. Thank goodness for adult only area of the resort. They did have nightly showtime that was very good. Kudos to the various acts they brought on for our enjoyment. 3) food is quite good, and I found good options for vegetarian and meat variety both! Overall: country's economy depends on tourism. And still they try to take advantage of tourists. I travel solo all over the world (including Istanbul 2 months before they had their war start), and Jamaica is the only Caribbean island I've visited so far where I feel that you cannot trust any person as they're all after your money in one way or another. Very dishonest feeling I get every time I come here. Sad that in even a resort here, I got daily phone calls in the room trying to sell me stuff I did not want. More
Good in places
We stayed here for two weeks on the all inclusive resort. It is rated as 4 star and I would not rate it as this. Some things were really good and some not so good. The bar service was really good and the staff friendly . The restaurant staff were a bit hit and miss and the food was not always the best. However, where we really found fault was housekeeping, there seemed to be no sense of pride, the rooms were not cleaned properly and the items were not replenished daily even towels , we had to complain. Our room we not serviced until the very end of the day about 4.30, and because of this it was like they had run out of everything and couldn't be bothered coming back. It was great there was an adult only beach and pool however, there was a local shop at the end of the beach where several things were sold and services offered , some of the people from the shop were sometimes a little disrespectful , however security did nothing about this despite witnessing this behaviour. The entertainment staff certainly earn their money and work very hard , well done to them. The management of the hotel need to take a hard look at how they can improve what is offered and think about customer service being priority.More
Not even worth 1 star!
The place is horrible! The staff are unfriendly rude and talk to you like scum. The rooms are a joke the maids don't clean them. The food is disgusting and the only thing for children is cheese and fruit. Most the food is bathed in cinnamon to the point it's disgusting and you choke on it . The place isn't nice to look at inside. Ye hotel states it family friendly yet they allow there guests to get baked on there balconies letting the stench flood the corridors and other guest room! We have a 8 month old baby and a 15 month old baby and the staff just laughed..yes it's Jamaica but it's illegal. Go elsewhere. The beaches aren't that great I will never be visiting Jamaica again as I have in the past had a better experience. Nor will I be using a holiday inn company abroad. Riu hotels 100% they provide everything you need I.e bottled water!!!!More
Sophie Leigh P,
If the price is right I would go back
Okay start with short summary then i will go into detail ... For 1500 canadian allinclusive 7 days its not bad. Not a great beach if you want to swim, pools not deep, more for kids, not much entertainment, good food, lots of food choice, no fancy room service or stocked fridges, staff are friendly, close to airport, no hot water on 4th floor shower however tub and sink there was hmmm. Again would say for me i love swimming in the ocean and this resort just didnt have the water depth in fact it was hard to get out past waist. Tide pending it was even more shallow and weedy. Likei said if you travel with kids this could be your spotMore
sanitation and extremely bad customer service
We stopped at this resort to be honest first impressions very good! First night in hotel the toilet overflowed sending water from the toilet into the bathroom and living area. They cleaned this up within 20 minutes OK we lived with that. THEN twice excretion came up into the sink!!!!! This was disgusting and reported this took photos and spoke to Mrs Hooper,Winsome. I have been in contact with her over the PAST 9 months YES 9 months and had no satisfactory reply!!!!! I have been in touch with Thomson they have just payed me today £266.00 compensation. The holiday was about 3,500. We went in June 2016 its taken this long to get something back. I took them to ABTA as well. what ever you do please think twice going here!!! We go to the Caribbean a lot and this is the worse place we have been to. I am not happy how the Hotel has treated me by ignoring emails I have sent them. They have replied a couple of times but not to resolve the issue. I was reluctant to add a review but this has not been resolved fro Mrs Hooper.More
