A beachfront setting, a big swimming pool and plenty of food choices – the Riu Montego Bay proves its worth as a Jamaican retreat.
The Riu Montego Bay is fronted by a white ribbon of sand and shrouded in tropical palm gardens. Although it feels far from the crowd, it’s only a 10-minute drive from the town centre.
Everything at this hotel is given a luxurious twist – one of the two pools bristles with sunken loungers, the restaurants dress up to the nines, and the sea-view suites are accessorised with carved furniture.

Needs Updating But Comfortable
Visited this hotel with feeling really apprehensive after reading the reviews on here, but on arrival in was checked in rather quickly and was given directions for our room to which we took our own luggage,we was in block 3 a nice quiet block away from the noise from entertainment in the evening, the room was a fair size but are a little small for 3 people but for 2 your fine, bed was comfortable but did feel a little damp every now and then I put it down to the humidity, the bathroom was large enough with his and hers sink, although the light in the shower area was poor, the mini bar was restocked every 2nd day and we never had an issue with it,but the tv could do with updating it was the square old style but did get some great American tv programmes.Staff were fabulous we never had a problem with any of them and they all worked very hard, the food was absolutely magnificent out of 11 nights we had 1 poor night, but could've ate elsewhere but never bothered.the jerk chicken hut on the beach was fab the chef called chop chop was great my grandson had seconds most days,I was disappointed with the beach as it was quite seaweedy, but ok for a change of scenery from the pool, the pools were great I preferred the non swim up bar pool as not so busy I sometimes found it hard to be served at the pool bar I once was at the bar for 30 mins till in the end I just got water from the pump at the bar they tend to stare right through you,the entertainment team work tirelessly and are very polite, all in all would I go back yes it's value for money but if you do want the updated rooms try the riu palace right next door costs a bit more but you only get what you pay for, thankyou riu montego bay we had a great time congrats to a great hotel.More
Realist review you will get from someone that has been to Jamaica every year for 11 years
I've been going to Jamaica every year sometimes twice a year. I've stayed all AI, small chains, stayed in negril and Mobay. Advantages: Close to the airport, good quality alcohol, bar is open 24 hours, entertainment staff are friendly , and same with the waitresses in the buffet. Disadvantages: No much for kids to do, no queen beds or kings. Husband and I had 2 double beds pushed beside one another. Food was bland, not much Jamaican food choices, daytime entertainment staff was fun evening time entertainment wasn't appealing. The entertainment staff were great but the choice to of shows were not catered to any Jamaican culture. The rooms are dated, not as dated as you may think. The tv's need upgrading as ours had a hole in the back which was very dangerous for kids like my own whom discovered the hole in the tv. Took arguing for 2 days to have the tv swapped out. Should have been a very easy fix but instead was arguments. The drinks were yummy, bartenders did an amazing job with creating new drinks. Water pressure was the best of any hotel I've stayed at in Jamaica. Very strong lots of hot water. No power outages. They have paddleboats free to use, some kayaks. The beach was not what you would expect, the sand isn't white, the water is full of seaweed, it is not crystal blue water, no problem we went to doctors cave and spent the day snorkelling and swimming. Cheap easy fun. If you want your hair braided go across the street in the mall and beside the small supermarket there is a lady there that has braided my hair for a few years and she is reasonably priced. Very good too. There is a nice barber shop In the same mall upstairs. Fun things to do that won't brake your pocket: -Rose hall haunted house (go at night) lots of history there. -go eat at the pork pit -aqua sol -Go downtown mobay, see the shops and locals and check out the market. -doctors cave beach is beautiful, has wifi, restaurant and alcohol -take a day trip to negril If you need a driver go outside and ask for Desmond, he is reasonable priced, will get you there safely and is family. My experience I would not return to RIU Mobay. I spend my hard earned money to go on holidays and experience there culture. I do not go to Jamaica to eat sandwiches, cereal, and have fried chicken. I don't want to watch Cuban dancers, and I do not wish to hear pop music. My daughter was extremely bored, hardly ate any of the food, and my husband and I couldn't snuggle together during our anniversary because the beds would separate. Considering the cost of this hotel, I would suggest going to holiday inn, grand palladium or maybe go and check out The shields, travellers, legends in Negril. I want to to hear reggae/dancehall, see your dances, Jamaican comedy ,eat Jamaican food, and have the locals teach me about their culture. Not feel like I'm on a vacation in Orlando or Phoenix. Entertainment staff kuddos, but tell your hotel management you want to show the real Jamaica. Best night I had was the beach party, that was great fun.More
A Great Place For A Wedding
If you go to Montego Bay, Jamaica you have many choices. A resort group to consider is RIU (Reggae, Palace or Montego Bay properties. The bridal party and all adults stayed at the adult-only RIU Reggae. I stayed at RIU Montego Bay. Both are very nice but the pool at RIU Montego Montego Bay is much bigger and sprawling! The rooms are very clean and includes a stocked bar of rum, vodka, gin and whiskey and mixers/chasers in the frig, which is restocked every other day. The staff was AMAZING, so was the food in the difference outlets. There's a slots casino in the Montego Bay but not the Reggae. The drinks of course at both properties were great. Guests of the Reggae and Palace can visit any of the three, but RIU Montego Bay guests cannot. I booked through Southwest Vacations and it included the All-inclusive resort, air and ground transfers in Montego Bay. I loved it and I shall return. More

Overall experience was excellent There was a couple of negatives though Check-in process was a nightmare could not find our reservation, finally found it room not ready it as after 4 only got 2 cards for beach towels good thing brought one since there was three in our group was informed to get something to eat then room should be ready after finding somewhere to eat since most did not opened until 630 found it in the open with a large selection of food after a hour or so went to room still was not done maids were in there so they did hurry up and get it done room was nice but was on the 2nd floor bad knees for sisters no elevator there first floor is ground 2nd floor is first floor confusing nice balcony view of next complex bar was nice things not found in room coffee pot, iron or ironing board wrinkle clothes upsets sister and I like to drink coffee in the am not truck to buffet to get some caffine. The main dining area was excellent if you can not find something to eat you are not hungry the food was great service was excellent pools were great entertainment at pools was excellent beach was ok lots of shade which was nice The night entertainment was awesome they work super hard enjoy all the shows while we were there, There were a couple of weddings also they look awesome on the beach decorated very nice I believe the couples were happy. We did a beach massage but was raining so had inside the employees at the spa were excellent did find the hot tub after three days hidden in the spa. We will go back there again enjoyed almost forgot since marijuana is legal there don't be surprise if you smell it or see it at one of the smoking areas especial by the pool. The diversity of the human race was there and happiness was everywhere since the motto is no problem love lifeMore
witnessed a child almost drown
Witnessed a child almost drown and he was rescued by one of my party jumping in and saving him. the only lifeguard that was present at the pool was busy talking to the lady who hands out the towels. He had his back to the pool. I reported the incident to reception so they could log it in the incident book. I then requested to see a member of management instead head of security came to see me who said he would investigate the incident and report it to management. The following day I followed up the incident to see if the child was ok and to see if they was going to thank us for saving him. At this point I found the head of security very rude and he refused to tell me if the incident had been logged in the incident book. He told me that he had told the manager of the hotel however this was a lie. I later saw the manager and he had no idea about the incident. He said he would then follow it up and get back to me but again nothing. PARENTS please be extra vigilant with your kids around the pool as they do not have the same safety standards that we do. A member of my party had to jump in fully clothed to save a drowning boy and as a thank you they rewarded him with coffee beans and two mints! your family safety is at risk at this hotel and the management don't seem too bothered about it. however the waiting staff in the restaurants and the entertainment crew were all fantastic.More
