Absolutely perfect all inclusive resort. The food was amazing in all restaurants. My favourites were the Chinese and the steak. You can even get a decent meal in the main buffet and it's not repetitive. Pools were really nice and the beach was beautiful. Staff are really efficient and friendly. Room was clean and comfy. Taxi company at the front of reception are really good for going on small trips. Jamaica is beautiful. Best trip was Mayfield falls. Best two weeks of my life :)More
Not Seven Mile but I'll go back!
In November 2016, my husband and I along with another couple were attending a vow renewal at Sandals and decided to find a resort that was friendlier on our wallets. This was my first trip to Jamaica so the things that I found disappointing didnât damper my holiday. The transportation from the airport to the RIU @ Bloody Bay went very smoothly. The Caribic driver gave us an excerpt of a history lesson on the long drive. The country side is breath-taking beautiful so have your camera ready. When we arrived at the resort we were greeted with a cold class of punch. The check-in went smoothly except for I couldnât remember which credit card I booked the room so the delay was really my fault. We arrived before our vacation companions and we wanted to surprise them since they never had a honeymoon and the concierge accommodated us by putting champagne and a welcome basket in the couplesâ room. I was so excited to be there that I didnât wait long enough in my room to meet the woman that took care of our room every day but she made sure to stay around just to introduce herself the next day. Our bed was super soft and the shower pressure was never low. The balcony was private enough that we didnât see our next door neighbor. And I enjoyed trying to get a picture of the sunrise every morning, only to fall asleep before I could take the picture. The first night we ate the Steak House and yes we did have to get on line but I was jazzed to be on vacation so that didnât bother me at all. I did see some people get turned away but they did come during the second course and the hotel does have a cool buffet restaurant on the other side of the stage. It is a bit of walk because the buffet restaurant is at the other end of the property. I believe the a la carte restaurants have two seating, we always made it to the first one so we can see whatever show the entertainment staff was hosting. My husbandâs only complaint is that the dessert from the steak house wasnât chocolate cake (his favorite). We ate breakfast at the buffet and if we were late we ate breakfast at the steak house or ordered Jerk Chicken from the hut on the beach. I have no complaints with any of the food. I enjoyed trying SourSop for the first time. Because I donât know may fruits â to me soursop tastes like a pineapple-pear-green apple but it reminds me of quenepas and it goes down smooth. And I must admit the porridge in the morn. Delicious. I do have complaints about one of the restaurants, it was not made clear that you cannot wear shorts or shirts that did not have sleeve. We waited on line for one of the restaurants, for lack of a better description, it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, that is why I wanted to eat there. The staff didnât look us in the face, when we were turned away, they were very dismissive and rude. I wanted to ask, if we quickly change could we be seated but she closed the door in my face. And then to top it off, a waiter from the next restaurant came over to point to a 8 ½ x 11 sign, that is not noticeable, by the foliage with this shirt/short rule. So we went to the buffet restaurant and the same waiter wouldnât let my husband in, pointing to the sign, but my husband did wear a shirt similar to the one he had on the night before. So moral of the story, wear long pants and short-sleeve shirts whenever you want to eat something. We also tried the Asian food, a little salty but it had all the things we expected. Other than that no complaints with the food. The drinks were awesome but the bartender in the stage area didnât know a lot of drinks but if you describe what you wanted he would come very close. Letâs see what is next. Ah, the beach. It is not what I am used to, like the Hotel Zone in Cancun. We did see people in the water but someone stepped on an sea orchid and that was enough for me to just stay out of the water. Didn't do any of the water sports but the sign-up for the water sports are next to the shack that give out the towels. These are not the official titles but there is a âpartyâ pool and a âquietâ pool. The party pool has the bar and I did hear exercising when I went for breakfast but I was too relaxed to join and all I wanted to do was eat, sleep on the beach and repeat until the vow renewal. No one else had this problem but apparently I am highly allergic to sandflies so make sure you spray your clothes with OFF if you plan to walk along the beach at night. OFF is sold in the gift shop, if you forget to pack. RIU @ Bloody Bay is a bay so you donât get the same view as if you were on 7-mile in Negril but we found a fix for that â Margaritaville. The beach here is awesome and the sand feels fantastic under your toes. The food is fast food but it was tasty and not expensive, we didnât order any alcohol but it was served. Just go for a day trip. Margaritaville is nice trip. Back to the resort. The beach always had a lot of lounge chairs, you didnât have to put your towel down before breakfast but they werenât always cleaned, which was surprising because the resort was so clean. I stayed right before the Thanksgiving holiday and the chairs were not cleaned until the day before I was leaving and the hotel was filling up for the Thanksgiving holiday rush. Another thing that kind of bummed me out was the pool was not cleaned every day, I saw white foam in the âpartyâ pool and a little bit against the walls of the âquietâ pool. And the pools are not heated. Did I mention Captain Kirk and his photography crew? We booked a package for us and our friends and they came out nice. Very professional when I had to change the reservation because I was trying to surprise my friends. His staff posed us well. We have pictures on the beach, along the entrance, near the pool and my favorite on the white bench in front of the hotel. All of us in a group shot. Memories. RIU also has a spa. I didnât go for a massage but I did go for a wax and it was much different but I didnât have to wait a day for soreness to go away. I donât know what they put on my skin but it made it smooth within hours. I took a nap and by time I woke up I felt fine. Entertainment was excellent! Roli Poli is awesome at exercise and entertainment. The shows were impressive and well done. Even when I fell on stage, long story, Roli Poli made sure I was okay and encouraged me to get up and dance. Yes, I would go back to this Riu. When we wanted to relax we found a spot and when we wanted to hoop and holler we went towards the entertainment. We had a relaxing vacation and would visit again. Even though I witnessed the quality of service improve when more hotel guests arrived I will visit again during a low season. I almost forgot one more thing, it is super easy to book excursions. We went to Ricks Cafe and YS Falls and Times Square Mall.More
Updated Resort, Friendly Staff, Very Clean
My husband and I just returned from a week stay at the Riu. First trip to Jamaica and had a wonderful time. Previous trips to warm destinations have taken us to Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. We really enjoyed our time in Jamaica and this resort. No complaints with the food, most likely with the strong British influence we had food similar to home. Lots of great veggies and potatoes (hubby is a big potato lover). Enjoyed trying the Jamaican dishes, curried goat and the jerk chicken both yummy. We never had to wait for tables or in lines as I think the hotel wasn't very full. But the staff was very efficient so could see that it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Tried the Asian and the Steak House. Steak house was great, always a little hesitant about getting a steak because you usually end up with a piece of shoe leather but this was tender and juicy. Resort wasn't taking reservations a le carts served on first come first serve basis. Our maid came and introduced us our first day, never had that happen before. Front desk also called us on our second day to make sure everything was acceptable and also returned to room one day to find a note and small bottle of Appleton Rum as a gift from the hotel. All nice little touches. Sand on our beach wasn't like the Sandy beaches we had in Cuba but it was still nice, there was sand flies but didn't bother us too much. Was impressed with the cleanliness of the resort. Someone was always sweeping or washing floors, door jams, door handles etc. Never before seen the outdoor tiles washed at a resort but these were mopped daily. Paul the singer bartender in the front lobby was lots of fun to listen to and he never stopped serving while singing. Didn't take advantage of the water sports but they were always busy, kayaks or peddle boats. Also giving rides on tubes behind boats, have never seen that before, not sure what the cost was for that. We had a relaxing vacation so spent most of our time on the beach. Didn't go in the pools but they looked very clean and when I did dip my feet in seemed warm. Limited spaces allowed for smoking which is great for the non smokers, was hard when wanting to watch the shows at night, not very many seats and trees blocking the stage.More
Overall this is a nice resort. We only ate at the buffet because we did not want to wait in line for the other restaurants. As far as buffets go the food was good. The reason for the three stars is mainly because of the Pedalers that bother you when you're on the beach. We mainly like to lay on the beach and enjoy the ocean. You will be constantly harassed by people trying to sell you things. Also part of the beach is really mushy when you first walk into the water. We found that if you move up the beach more towards the volleyball courts it got better. If you are the type of person that likes the swimming pool, loud music, and party atmosphere you will be happy swim bar at the pool. If you like the beach and don't mind being harassed by Pedalers you will also be fine. I prefer to be left alone to a nice quiet vacation on the beach. The entertainment was a mixture of good and bad. There was a great steel drum band one night and a wonderful reggae band one night. Otherwise there were some cheesy shows that everyone ended up leaving quite early from. We also enjoyed the singing bartender in the lobby bar. So overall this is a nice place. We love Jamaica and its people. We just prefer to be left alone to a nice day on the beach without being harassed by sales people all day.More
Great place to relax
We recently went to Rui Club Negril. We loved the beach and the relaxing factor that this hotel provided. The food was good but nothing I would say was over the top. The no reservation policy 6:30 or 830 seatings left us eating in the Buffett every night but like I said food was good there. The alcohol was just house drinks so hope you are not looking for any top shelf or name brand. Only Appleton and local alcohol. The entertainment left a lot to be desired. We enjoyed the singing bartender in the lobby he was fabulous!!! The night club is no longer there so it left us in our rooms by about 10 every night because there was nothing to keep us entertained. The rooms were nice, we had an ocean front and it was beautiful for the sunsets at night can't get over how beautiful they are on bloody bay. We walked to the vendors and down past riu palace but sadly we were kicked out when we tried to use the rest room. The resort it self was beautiful but there was not much to do there. I would return if all I wanted was to sleep and sun bathe but not for entertainment or drinks. Service was even lacking at this hotel. Over all kind of a disappointment More
