Large but very nice
We recently stayed here in the Grand building which for now is the smallest...although they are adding on. We stayed in a suite with separate bar, dining and living then through the sliding doors were our bedroom, sitting room and very large/nice bathroom. Although beautiful the rooms had some age on them. Our jacuzzi was an old style and when we ran the jets...black gunk filled the tub which was disappointing. We only tried 4 of the restaurants...the Brazilian steakhouse is not to be missed...wow! This is also the best restaurant to order the special Mexican coffee. We had a few tacos and nachos at the pool restaurant in grand but nothing special. For breakfast we usually did the buffet which is what you would expect with the exception of the awesome yogurts they made with fruit. The beach was definitely the biggest disappointment here. Although there were several tractors trying to remove debris from the beach...it was still full and the water was brown with seaweed for several feet out. In addition the ocean was red flagged everyday we were there. For activities there was mini golf, bike rides and paddle boarding. In addition, there are different activity lists at each building so if a time doesn't work in the building you are at, be sure to check out the others. Finally, we missed out on using points you receive when staying here...partially our fault. When they approached us during check-in regarding points we thought it was for a time-share presentation or something similar. Instead everyone receives points depending on how long you were booked and these could be used towards spa, golf or other activities. There us a limit per activity and you pay 18% tax. I did use 220 of them for an 80 minute facial that was wonderful. Ended up only costing $40 with tax and tip! Employees all seemed nice and very helpful. Special shout out to William who helped with our bags and showed us our room. He remembered us all week and made us feel special...go big red William!More
Vacationed here 4 times.
Beautiful resort. Service is great and the food is okay but we don't go there for the food. Slightly higher cost but worth it. The Jacuzzi and bar in the room is a great touch and the bars are very nice. Top shelf brands. Downside is the beach. Not much of one and is usually covered in seaweed. If you want a beach take the courtesy shuttle to one of the sister resorts like the Sun Palace.More
New Years 2017 at Moon Palace
Large resort with plenty of restaurants and activities. We were put in the Sunrise area. We first stayed in the Sombrero building on the second floor. I liked that it backed into the jungle and had a side view of the ocean. What I liked about this area was that it was quiet and peaceful. It had a large patio with a nice hammock that my child enjoyed. The room was also clean. I didn't like how far it was from the pool and everything else. You can take the golf cart but it took a while until someone would pick you up. The negative in this room was that we had a king bed and requested a roll away. It took several hours and phone calls for them to finally bring it over. And when they did bring it, it was a bit crammed in our room for a family of three. Our phone was also not working properly and they had to replace it. Next room we moved into was in the Mango building. This was closer to the pool, lobby, and restaurants. We stayed on the first floor and had a family room which was a room with king bed and a connected room with two twin beds. The room with two twin beds had kids robes and slippers, snacks, shampoo for kids, beach toys and kid's stool. All of these items are for smaller children. My 8 year old was too big for these things. I wish they could provide things for older or bigger children. They also had an xbox in the cabinet. The negative here was that you can hear the carts and loud people walking in the hallways. Not as peaceful as the previous room. Restaurants: We tried Bugambilia, Gondola, Palapa restaurant for seafood, and Momo Japanese Restaurant in the Sunrise bldg and Brazilian restaurant in Nizuc. Buffets were fine and we enjoyed the Brazilian and Momo the most. The long line we encountered was at the omelet station. We made reservations ahead of time for dinner at Momo and Gondola. We could not get reservations for the restaurants at the golf course. As another reviewer said, it would be nice to also have snacks such as chips or crackers inside the room or chips and salsa at the crepe and coffee bar. I found myself looking for chips at the bars and they didn't have any. We enjoyed room service several times. We ordered food to be delivered early on the days we had early excursions. Grounds and pools: Nice ambience with lots of pools. However they were not heated. Beach was not swim manor and it really was full of seaweed. We had to use the bus to Beach Palace for the better beach. Entertainment: We were only able to watch the Michael Jackson show and it was okay. I would recommend looking at the show schedules to plan your day. I failed to do this as we we mostly had late night dinners around 8pm. Service: Most of the staff was friendly. Most greeted you and provided good service. Some staff were not as friendly such as the room service guy who came in and just left the tray on the table and failed to take with him dishes from our previous room service order. He also did not set any of our order out like the other servers. The driver for the bus that took us to Beach Palace was also unprofessional by almost getting into a brawl with a shuttle driver. The guy who worked on the bus was also not professional. I asked him a question and he just blew me off. He mostly spoke Spanish and mostly just conversed with a passenger in the bus. He also keep telling us andale andale. He was so rude. Front desk: Mediocre service except the lady that checked us out was the friendliest of them all. Excursions: We paid to parasail on property. Very unprofessional guys. One kept saying andale andale to us again. The boat was also crashed into the other boat. We felt unsafe up in the air. The other excursion off property such as Rio Secreto and Ek Balam with Cenote Maya were really fun. Ek Balam was about two hours away though and the van was uncomfortable. 90 minute presentation: We ended up listening to the presentation in exchange for excursion credits. It was over 90 minutes though (more like 3 hours) and we ended up missing the bus to Beach Palace. We also ended up buying a membership. I will review that later once we start using it. Membership we bought was $25,000 and that's not even diamond level. More
Moon Palace is an amazing place. It has several pools, exercise room and plenty for the kids to do. They have some type of show about every evening. It is a huge resort with 3 lobbies and several restaurants. The Italian restaurant at the golf course is amazing. Adrian working at the moon grande pool is so personable. Also Kenny at sushi bar is great too.More
Two wonderful weeks at Moon Palace
This is about my 6th two week vacation at Moon Palace and will definitely go for my 7th. I have stayed at The Grand, Nizuc and Sunrise areas. Love all of them. The restaurants are numerous and all the food is great. Service is exceptional and so friendly, from the cart drivers to the pool attendants and waiters - everyone is helpful and accommodating. Lilia, our concierge was excellent, , Jorge, our waiter when we had dinner at Nizuc was great and at the Grand pool we would like to give accolades to Fernando, Felix, Irene, Alturo and Enrique.More
