My family and I recently came back from a trip in Mexico at your resort, Riu Cancun Las Americas. We returned to this hotel, which we were at last year, because we had an amazing trip. There was great food, the service was amazing, and it couldn't have gotten any better. We decided to save up to come back this year. When we were there, we had an amazing time. We also brought our relatives to enjoy this wonderful hotel. Everything was going great just like we expected. Sadly, on our second to last day we encountered a problem. We were trying to get in our room and none of our keys worked. we came to the lobby to get it fixed, and it turned out we were locked out of our room by management. They had told us that we damaged their towels by puking all over them and we couldn't get in until we payed. We didn't understand how this could happen, nobody in our room was puking which confused us. The receptionist started showing us pictures of our room. This was such a scary shock to us. We immediately asked to see the manager. Once he arrived, he started showing us the same pictures on his phone. I didn't know how they could take these pictures of our stuff without our permission. when i asked why they could do this, he very rudely answered that "he can do whatever he wants in his hotel". I cant believe the invasion of privacy that we were experiencing along with the very rude management. They accused us of doing something we didn't do and on top of that taking private pictures of our personal belongings, plus everybody who was staff had access to our personal pictures. they saw everything in our room. I am so scared to ever return and I don't know what other information they have on us in their phones and computers. I hope this will be fixed in the future because this is the worst treatment I've received. this makes the hotel reputation so awful.More
Fabulous Time Had By All
I can not say enough good things about the Riu Palace Las Americas. The food, the drinks, the pool and the beach were amazing. The most special thing about the place is ALL of the hard working staff that they have. Everyone we encountered was so nice, accommodating and hardworking. This was our second experience with a Riu resort & definitely won't be the last. Only one piece of advice...make sure the patio door is CLOSED and the handle is turned down or the AC will not work in your room & it will be hot!!!!! We went 2 days with our room being hot only to realize that it was our error of not having the handle in the locked position.More
Amazing with a few issues
Pros: The service and interior at the hotel are amazing, the staff are truly trained well, Felix and Pablo at the reception desk are lovely. The pool staff and restaurant staff are equally good. The cocktails are made really well, I would highly recommend the chocolate martini and the Bahama mama. The buffet has a wide range of food available but it can get repetitive for those that don't really like the other 6 restaurants. Highly recommend the pancakes and Spanish omelette for breakfast and lobster for dinner. The view from the room and poolside is amazing and the pool is kept clean. They restock your mini fridge regularly and clean the room very well. The room is spacious, there had been three of us sharing a room with two double beds and they accommodated us on request with another bed which fit next to the sofa. Japanese restaurant food and service is very good, chicken satay dish was excellent. Close to a beach bar called Alebris bar where you can drink out of a coconut for 5 USD and they give you a free shot if you ask for the slammer Just to repeat, the staff are amazing!! Cons: I would not recommend going to the Steakhouse nor the Mexican, the food was terrible at the Mexican with the tortillas tasting powdery and the chicken had been bland. The Steakhouse had a wee smell and the chicken had been slightly rubbery. The shower door in room 240 had water leaking from it despite telling reception on three different occasions, I believe they did try to resolve it but it just didn't work so it was frustrating having to wipe up the water after a shower Room 242 had an unpleasant sewage smell (perhaps coming from the bathroom) We also went to Riu Cancun for lunch, they have a smaller buffet so the Palace Las Americas is much better. If you are looking for a lively hotel with loud music Riu Cancun would be better but for a family holiday, the Palace is much better. There is a musty smell in the air but it wasn't unpleasant, it's just strong. Overall, we enjoyed our holiday because of the excellent service and the hotel itself, I would definitely visit again in the hope that the other restaurants are better. I have attached some pictures of the meal at the Japanese, pool, beach, and Alebris. (For anyone travelling to Mexico, in general, I would recommend buying a really good mosquito repellant as well as a good antiseptic and aloe vera gel - I got bit 11 times despite using repellant)More
My husband and I stayed at this hotel in July. The location is good for attractions in the touristy bit of cancun including bars, restaurants and clubs. The staff are amazing and the hotel is spotless. However, in our opinion there is a really strong smell of mould which appears to be coming from the air conditioning. After two days we switched it off in our room because the smell wasn't nice and we couldn't have spent two weeks taking in the smell. We slept with the balcony door open and fan on at night and this turned out to be cool enough. The beach is nice waiter staff super efficient. The buffet choice was amazing. High quality cuts of meat etc. We visited the Steak restaurant several times and the Italian a few times. The Japanese was okay too. Again, however we were sick for eight days of our holiday with diahorea. We started with chills and aches which we bough paracetamol for this went to diahorea which we had for days. After day 5 I stopped eating salads and fruit and any raw food this seemed to help. We didn't eat outside the hotel. In fairness I'm not sure if the water in the cancun area doesn't have something to do with it as it has an odd smell coming from the shower and you have to use bottled water. However again the food quality is high. Wine was nice too. Cocktails were okay. They seemed to be mixed with cheap mixers some blended fruit or higher quality ingredients might make for better drinks. Apart from the beach there isn't much else to do. No tennis courts etc. Overall the the hotel was spotless air con needs sorting, high quality food and great staff. If we go to Cancun again we'd stay at the Penninsula perhaps but for an all inclusive bargain the place is good value.More
Great Adult Vacation
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Riu Palace Las Americas from July 30- Aug 3 and had an amazing mini vacation. We went with another couple and we all agreed that we didn't have any complaints. We stayed on the 6th floor in an ocean view room and the view was absolutely breathtaking. We arrived before check in, but we were able to use all of the amenities as soon as we got there. Be careful booking trips to Isla Mujeres from the hotel. They tried to sell us a package deal for $99 per couple for the ferry ride to the island and a golf cart for 2 hours. To catch the ferry they would transport us to another Riu property 15 minutes away. Instead we went with Ultramar Ferry, it is within walking distance from Riu Palace Las Americas and a little better deal. For $100 we took the 9am ferry ride and rented a golf cart that had to be returned by 5pm. The last ferry leaves the island heading back to Cancun @ 5. We ate all of our meals at the resort except for the day we went to Isla Mujeres. The resort has many different dining options with some options available 24/7. The buffet is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and there are several specialty restaurants for dinner. There are numerous bars including a swim up bar in one of the pools. David the bartender and William the server on the beach took great care of us and were always prompt with our drinks. We got a massage at the spa that was great, but the spa itself is not plush. If you need an umbrella on the beach ask one of the lifeguards for one. The only problem with our room was that the showered was clogged, but it was fixed within 15 minutes of us telling the front desk. We were all very happy with every aspect of our trip to Cancun will definitely return to this resort in the future.More
