Cheap and basic
Hotel is in a good location. There is a shuttle bus that runs to 5th avenue and their beach club. The beach club is fantastic lovely white sand and blue sea. The food at the hotel is decent enough. Would not recommend the Mexican food, very bland and mushy. The snacks offered aren't just left overs from breakfast and lunch which you can only eat at the Italian restraint. Would be nice if they prepared fresh snacks that you could eat by the pool or your room. The steak house was nice. No selection for starters so you're served shrimp and cheese sticks like it or not. However the main course was nice. The rooms are extremely basic and clearly showing their age. Mattresses aren't comfy to get a full nights sleep and the air con is very loud. All the bathrooms in the hotel have a strong smell of urine. The toilet brush holders are filled with urine and never emptied or cleaned (not very hygienic). The towels are rough and old. I would not expect this from a 5 star hotel? The pool area is lovely however feels like a pool in magaluf. Monday they have a foam party in the pool and the same dance songs are played on repeat everyday!! If you are looking for a relaxing holiday do not go here. However a week of booze and partying is the vibe the hotel offer. The do have a kids pool however we did not see this being used once and all the children were in the main pool. The hotel is not suitable for couples. The hotel issue out cards to get towels for the pool. If you loose a towel or inour case one of the staff moves all the sunlougers and takes your towel you will be charged. As a travel agent I expected the hotel to try thier hardest as we sell their property but no extras were able to be offered as the hotel is so basic. Whilst on holiday my partner celebrate don't his birthday the hotel sent us a plate of fruit from the buffet? The sentiment was nice however more effort could be put into little things like this to really be a 5 star.More

Marvellous Tiem At The Riu Lupita
We arrived 25/05/17 & stayed for 2 weeks.Booked with Holiday Hypermarket as the price was superb-£1400 for the 2 of us from LGW. Dreamliner took 9 1/2 hours to get there & 8 1/2 return. Transfer from Cancun took 45 mins in a minivan to get there. Arrival desk was quick & efficient & all relevant info, maps etc given out & arrival drink too which was very welcome. We found our room (1281) easily & took our own luggage after a drink at the bar. The room over looked the quiet pool area. We had e mailed ahead & asked for a room off the ground floor with a pool view. They gave us just that. The room was a typical Caribbean one & spacious.Plenty of storage areas, walk in shower & basic toiletries provided.A free digital safe is in the wardrobe too. Also plenty of towels changed daily if needed. The fridge has 4 large waters, cokes, sodas & 4 beers.4 optics-tequila,dark rum, vodka & gin. Every day someone topped these up & the room cleaned but we always keep our room tidy & empty our own bins so not much for the maid to do. The resort is fairly small but very clean & tidy.Always cleaning, gardening etc being done & all staff are friendly. 3 pools-main one by the bar/buffet area which is the activity pool.A quiet pool near the gym, spa, disco & a kids pool near the kids play area. The gym has one running machine,2 other sit down contraptions & free weights.Very welcome air con, towels & water container. We went to the disco on way back one night but as is fairly typical of resort discos-very loud music & not many there! There is a bar there & drinks are free (unlike the Riu Bachata in the Dom Rep at Easter where payment was needed for them!) The entertainment team are very personable, friendly & work very hard.Entertainment cannot suit everyone but they work hard every day.A foam party is held weekly which was fun & the visiting Coco Bongo crew help out too. The food is also very good. One main buffet near the stage & again the staff are very good.Asian theme night on Saturdays with much selection. When the buffet closes, the snack bar is open (which at night is the Italian a la carte option. Also a Mexican a la carte too is available but we used neither of these as Italian is not for us & the main buffet has all Mexican options. We use the Grill twice which is at the beach bar at night & that is very good.Staff there are very friendly.Only the Grill needs to be booked. To do this, you book at the desk as you enter the main buffet & turn immediately left.Speak to the buffet manager & he does the booking. Late night snacks are available as at approx 10pm,they bring the fridge out from the Italian & stock it with fruits, hot dogs, sandwiches & hamburgers-just help yourself! The bar staff work exceptionally hard & will often know what your drink order is.Our drinks were in front of us before we had drank the one we had! They are very good especially Blanca, the other girl & the other staff too.Sadly we forget all their names. The main nightly show starts at 9.45pm & lasts for 1 hour-Elvis,Michael Jackson,Mariachi,Folklore,Mayan,Drag Show. Shuttle buses run from approx 7am-6pm to the private beach pool.bar, buffet area. This is also a very nice area.Walking there takes 30 mins from hotel past the golf course. It takes 20 mins to walk to Playacar (5th Avenue). The beach is lovely, clean & if you walk right you will pass other Riu hotels,Sandos Resort etc for a few miles. If walking left from beach bar,in 20 mins you get to Playacar ferry terminal (near Senor Frogs). There you can get regular ferries to Cozumel & a return ticket costs 150 pesos per person. We enjoyed visiting Cozumel for a few hours. There is daily entertainment music at the beach bar/pool too. At night depending if you are a 7pm or 9pm sitting, the shuttle bus will take you there. The bar is not open to those who would like to have visited simply for a drink on the beach rather than to eat. We would have done that if able to. There are very many animals/birds that 'visit' the hotel. These include coatis, agoutis, iguanas, squirrels, woodpeckers & the hotel is also home to the resident 10 cats who are also very friendly. The hotel positively promotes animal welfare & we too agree with this. A massive thumbs up for that. We had one 'issue' whilst there & the Manager-Sergio & his deputy-Alex(?) positively resolved it.They are very helpful, friendly & understood our point of view on this 'issue'.So much so,we had 3 bowls of fruit in our room as a goodwill gesture (also one after arrival) & the option of dining at the Riu Palace too. We declined this as the Lupita was good enough for us but nonetheless the option was there. All in all the Riu Lupita is a smallish resort, with fairly limited facilities & is a short bus ride from their private beach club area. Many will not like that but for us,it is nice to have different options. The Riu Lupita is small but packs a very big punch. We thoroughly enjoyed & fully recommend a visit there. We will return as long as the dates etc are compatible with our travel plans. Thank You Sergio & all your Staff-take a bow!More
We stayed at Riu Lupita from May 1 to May15, 2017. The weather was great! hot and sunny the whole two weeks. It rained twice and only at night. The resort Is beautiful and clean. The pools are clean. The grounds are very nicely kept. The rooms are very nice with brand new bathrooms and very spacious showers. We really found the staff to be very friendly, very hard working and very very helpful. We actually made friends with a lot of the staff, they're such great people. There is a shuttle bus that's very clean and air conditioned that comes every half an hour and takes you to the beach club. Its about an 8 minute bus ride through a gorgeous neighborhood with beautiful houses to the beach club which is right beside Riu Palace. It makes one stop in between for drop off or pick up to 5th avenue where there's a starbucks and lots of shopping to do. The beach club is great. Has great food, drinks and icecream all day and a pool. Then there's the gorgeous beach that looks like a post card with white sand, beautiful palm trees and turqoise waters that are very shallow, so great for kids to swim in. I'm a beach goer so I spent a lot of time at the beach!!!! The food at Riu Lupita was great! Huge buffet and selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every day dinner is a different theme but if you don't like that particular theme, there's still the usual. There's tons of food and selection so you will not be disappointed and its really yummy. Every night there's a show which my husband enjoyed a lot, I particularly am not into those live shows. There's a lot of Coatis roaming around the place, but they don't bother you at all unless you feed them, which you are not suppose to do. The only thing we didn't like was we found the bed in our room to be too hard for our taste as we sleep in a very soft bed at home, but that was the only complaint we had. We went there with our two kids which are 3 and 8 and they loved it and had a blast. We loved it there, our experience there was fantastic and not only are we returning there again but we highly recommend it. Its a great family resort.More
A Great Place
THE GOOD This resort was great. The rooms were clean and, like everything else on the resort, well cared for. Everywhere on the resort, people were constantly cleaning, raking, watering, and planting trees and flowers. The food was very good with lots of variety and something for everyone at every meal. the wait staff at the restaurant was the happiest and most attentive of any resort I have visited. There were three pools on the resort, a child's pool, a family pool, and an adult pool for relaxing. My birthday happened to fall on a day while staying at the resort. Somehow they knew and surprised me with a lovely fresh fruit basket and birthday greetings from the staff. I thought that to be a very nice touch and was really appreciated. There was always fun and games and entertainment at the family pool. Loads of fun! THE BAD The resort is not located on the beach, although the resort does have a dedicated beach area. A shuttle bus to and from the beach runs every half hour until 8 p.m. THE UGLY There was no ugly, like I said, it's a great place to stay.More
