Go to Dominican Republic
This hotel offers the best service we have ever had, but that is all and it is not enough. We stayed for 2 weeks from end May. Beach was red flagged for whole duration although it looked beautiful we were unable to take our Children in water. Whole hotel looked a bit bland. We have paid much less for hotels in Dom Rep and received much more. This hotel should be adults only. I have read a few reviews from people complaining about children in this hotel, why not stay at an adult only? I thoroughly recommend Iberostar Grand Bavaro in Dominican Republic and will continue to look for a family friendly version of this hotel but am yet to find it. Thomson UK have a contract for the worst rooms in the hotel and in my opinion if you email the hotel in advance asking for a good view you will be given a room with a concrete balcony so that you have no view, then they will wait for you to come to reception so that they can charge you more for a 'room upgrade' (A room with a better view) The speciality restaurants don't cater for children. We paid a lot of money to come here and were very disappointed, especially since we were charged around £200 to leave Mexico. The service is good but I would recommend looking at hotels in Dominican Republic as your money goes a lot further. This is no more than a 3 star hotel More
Lovely visit to Rui Palace
We stayed for a week at The Palace in May 2017 for an all inclusive family holiday. We travelled with Thomson - quick word of advise, check in online early as there were several families not seated together on the flight, but overall very good flight. The hotel was lovely when we walked in. Grand chandeliers in reception and a very modern and clean vibe. We were given a cool drink while we were checking-in and reception staff were friendly and helpful and our bags were brought up to the room. The rooms were clean and modern but not luxurious. Perhaps I'm just being fussy but the toilet is in a tiny cubicle and if you had the shut the door it could feel claustrophobic. Also if you're a family sharing room make sure you ask for a room with a curtain and the bath/shower is fully exposed otherwise. Unless it's just a couple they you really do need a partition. There are plenty of clean towels, toiletries and a fully stocked mini bar, all totally free! If you're going with Thomson from the UK just don't expect a pool/sea view. The pool area was spacious as was there were plenty of loungers. Clean pool area with enough shade of needed. There were also some classes and sports if you did want to get involved. Alternatively you can use the beach area which is beautiful (although very cold in May!) There was lots of room though and plenty of loungers and a nice sea breeze. Breakfast was great - so much choice! Lots of fruit juices, smoothies. Full English, Asian cuisine, fresh fruit, fresh churros and a selection of breads, cereals etc. You honestly will be spoilt for choice. Lunch was good. Again lots of choice and food was being freshly cooked. Only complaint would be the fact that food can get cold quickly but I guess that really can't be helped if there are fans everywhere to try and keep people cool. You are also allowed to have drinks and lunch (not breakfast or dinner) at any of the other Rui hotels. I think you can see why the Palace hotels are the best (anyone at the Palace hotel can go to any Rius but they can come to ours). We had lunch one day at the Rivera Maya Palace. That's has a very authentic and traditional feel compared to the Palace Mexico but it's equally lovely. Dinner was delicious. Again lots of choice and also there are al a carte restaurants. We tried the Thai which was good but the buffet was our favourite. Had some lovely quality food too and lots of sea food, meats etc. Something for even the fussier of eaters. Good quality wine served and even pink champagne! There are also evening shows so be sure to ask for a timetable. There was a cirque du soleil at the Rui hotel opposite and also a brilliant Micheal Jackson show at the Palace A not to be missed for any MJ fans! Drinks were free flowing through the day and lots of choice, the rooms had a fully stocked mini bar too which I've never seen before! Lovely cocktails and mocktails and waiters even come around the beach and pool area taking orders. Tipping - not compulsory but you can tip if you've had good service. Just don't feel pressured to every time someone gets you a drinks. Overall lovely experience! More
Excellent resort. Can't really fault it.
This resort is amazing! Rooms- The rooms are comfortable and the beds are nice too. Blankets are in the wardrobe! Not many rooms have privacy curtains and most rooms have double beds put together. The shower and toliets are in cubicles, but unless you are a couple/good friends you might find it slightly uncomfortable to share a room with someone else. There is plenty of luggage space. Food- The food is so good. The buffet has so much choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast there is always sausages, scrambled egg, fried egg, omelettes, boiled eggs, fried tomatoes, crispy bacon, cheese toasties, croissants, French toast, waffles, donuts, fruit in batter, fried tortillas in sugar, donut holes, Mexican breakfast items, cereals, yogurts meats and lots of fruit, fruit juices and smoothies. They also had soya milk. For lunch and dinner at the buffet, they always had at least 3 types of pasta in sauce (including Bolognese and a cheese sauce), chips, rice, hot dogs, burgers, fish fillets, chicken fillets, beef steaks, pizza, salad items, deli meats, deli cheeses and different meats in different sauces. Dinner also saw a rotation of different themes. Gala night is thursday and they have large lobster pieces on offer. One night they even had a steak live cooking station where you chose your steak and how you want it cooked and they cook it there and then. They also had a mini burger live cooking station. My lactose intolerant friend had no problem finding food to eat. The buffet was so good we only ate at one specialty restaurant the whole time. The wedges in the steak restaurant were so good! They overcooked my steak so it was more medium/medium-well than the medium-rare I ordered but it was still a good steak. The french macaroons on the shared dessert plate didn't disappoint. The Italian and Mexican restaurant menus didn't seem too interesting for my group. We would have tried the Japanese and the fusion restaurants as they looked impressive and intimate but my husband managed to pack only one pair of trousers, which didn't fit him! Jeans would be ok in there and a collared shirt isn't necessary. The 24 hour lounge always has tasty snacks which are constantly being changed. Every time I was in there a member of staff was changing out old food and adding new food and cleaning the area and changing utensils. There are always sandwiches, tortilla chips, toppings, burgers and hot dogs to eat. Other items that appeared included mozzarella sticks, fried fish strips, fried chicken strips, tortilla wraps. Drinks- So tasty! The bartenders will make you whatever you ask for. My favourite thing to do was to sit at the bar overlooking the beach and be brought strawberry daiquiris and fruit punches. The milkshakes at the cappachino were also super tasty. Staff- The staff are amazing, incredibly friendly and work super hard. Had an issue with housekeeping that was adequately dealt with by the manager, but other than that staff were excellent and constantly professional. Beach- Stunning. Just stunning. The pictures on trip advisor do mot do the beach justice. The blue of the sea is amazing. Lots of loungers available. Staff will move them into the shade for you. The hammocks are also super comfy. Staff bring drinks round on trays too. Pool- The pools are great! The swim up bar is open from 10am until 6pm and the service is fast. The pool bar at riu tequila appeared quite rowdy at times but this isn't the case at the palace. People just relaxed at rhe bar here. The little infinity pools are actually deep enough to sit in and are really warm and are in the shade by late afternoon. Spa- The relaxing massage is amazing and worth every penny. I had a massage in the cabana on the beach and one in the spa. If you book online before you leave you can get 10% off the price in the spa. Entertainment- The entertainment team work hard and are very friendly. There are always activities going on such as yoga on the beach, darts on the beach and nightly shows. You can also go to Yucatan where there was a coconut beach party one day, or to riu tequila to the pacha nightclub (opens at 11pm but doesn't really get going until 11.30pm) or the sports bar. It is $25 pesos to play air hockey and $40 to play pool. You can rent jet skis and parasailing on the beach for $65 USD. Scube Caribe is also located on the beach where you can use the snorkelling equipment, kayaks and boogeyboards. Sail boats are free to use but only if you know how to use them. We came as a group of 5 but we will be coming back in 2019 with many more friends as we loved it so much.More
Best holiday of my life
This hotel is absolutely fantastic, we enjoyed every minute of our holiday. We stayed in June 2015 to I'm a bit late with my review. The steak and fusion restaurants were incredible, and I have never seen a better buffet! The drinks were sometimes a bit on the strong side for me, but the staff were always willing to sort that out or bring something more to my liking. Absolutely perfect for my boyfriend though. The staff were incredible. I was never without a drink around the pool, and after 2 nights Raul had our preferred drinks waiting for us at dinner without us even asking. He was fantastic! The only slight niggle I had was the swim up bar. We didn't even attempt to go in that pool as there were people in it the full day without leaving and when you saw it getting cleaned at night it was vile. That isn't the hotels fault though, just some disgusting people. More
Just got back from 10 days honeymoon ,Have to say best holiday I have ever had. Staff so friendly , especially the energetic entertainments team , food excellent ,hotel very clean ,couldn't find a fault .Hoping to go back next year with the kids.More
