Thought we would give it another try
Thought we would give this place another try. The check in was great and the front desk people were really good. However, we wanted two rooms beside each other as we were travelling with young adult women (our children) and we were supposed to be on the same floor in the same building, however we go to get to our room and magically someone else is already in that room. So our girls got a great room in the Riviera side that overlook the private pools, we got moved to a building over, and our room faced the back of the Riviera restaurant so non stop noise and non stop workers. So unfortunately we did not really get any sleep. And because that was not really the room that they gave us, our second last day our keys no longer worked and it took three times to get our keys corrected. Could not get moved as the resort was "full". We did get upgraded from the Sunset side to the Riviera side, but our wrist bands still reflected the Sunset side. We also learned after day one that you had to get up at 7 am and go place towels on chairs otherwise you did not get a chair anywhere. Very unfortunate. The pools were missing a ton of tiles and could use a good upgrade. The pluses to this resort, is that it is big and had great food. The a la carte restaurants are your typical foods, they were okay but nothing spectacular. The resort is good for families as they have a ton of things to do for the whole family. It was also a good bang for your buck. On the most part we did have some great people help us or serve us and that was the best part.More

Nice place but way too big!
The resort was very nice. There was lots of variety with food. The beach was beautiful. The staff were awesome. The entertainment was good. The drink selection was AMAZING! I love the wild life at this place! There is a section that overlooks crocodiles! So fun! There's also coatis which are so neat. The best part of this hotel is that they've sorta adopted stray cats and they feed them. The staff are friendly to them and people love seeing them, especially where they miss their pets back home. I love how good they are to the animals. Overall, the experience was really good but the resort is way too big for my liking. I love walking but this was a bit much. If you forgot something in your room, it was 15 minutes to walk back (depending on where you're located). The shuttles rarely came. I heard a la carte was pretty good for some options. We didn't have a very good experience at the Japenese place. I found the buffet food overall was quite bland but LOTS to chose from so I can't complain. The sushi was unreal! I've stayed at 7 resorts over the past few years and this was my first 5 star place. It was no better than the other 3 and 4 stars I've stayed at. I paid a fortune to stay here only because my friend got married here. (Wedding was BEAUTIFUL and officiant was amazing.) I wouldn't return again unless the cost was much lower. All to say, if you get a good deal, it's worth it! More

One of best trips
This is the third time that we have stayed at the Grand Riviera/Grand Sunset Princess resort. We love this resort as it has everything we want. It is a large resort, however there are many restaurants to choose from as well as many pools. We always go to the Chill Out restaurant on on first night (this restaurant is not part of the all-inclusive but is very reasonable and very good). Once you visit this restaurant once you have full access to a more private beach and wait staff as well as free wi-fi on the beach. The property is very well kept as well as the rooms. We are especially grateful to Jonathan Sosa who is the Bell Hop at both hotels. He has become a very special friend to us He is always there to help you out whenever you need it....and even when you don't. He is a very pleasant individual who never forgets you from year to year. We have recommended this hotel to several friends and family.More

Great place to stay !
Best all inclusive hotel I've been to. They have a taco stand by the pool hard to beat that. Staff is great and helpful. Diego Barrahas and Demetrio Herrera from the sports bar took good care of us. The hotel also has a shuttle that takes you down to playa De Carmen for 50 pesos instead of 250 that cabs charge. More
Day 2 and so far I would say to stay anyplace else
Food is bad to mediocre, service is terrible and gotten more lectures than assistance. Facility is huge but I'd say the quality is only average with loose tiles around the whole facility. Water in the pool is freezing and my girls have had chattering teeth within a few minutes. Will continue to update throughout the whole tripMore
