Great Value Retreat
A superb, state of the art hotel finished to the highest standard. The rooms are very spacious and well maintained. Excellent complimentary toiletries which were regularly refreshed. The wifi speed was very good, at all times in the room and surprisingly on the beach ! The food is of an excellent standard. So much choice and beautifully presented. We particularly enjoyed the Fish Restaurant and had a great waiter ( Gabriel). The French Restaurant offers a more intimate environment. Do not miss the amazing Buffet Restaurant with a massive range of dishes ( probably the best burgers we have ever had). Beach staff are very friendly and attentive. Their standard of English is very good. Most of the staff are very helpful and approachable, although a few varying standards. All in all an excellent value for money choice.More

Great 2 weeks
Me and my husband stayed at the resort last September and loved it. Everything about this hotel is great, it's very clean, modern, the people are lovely and the food and drinks were delicious. Great entertainment at night also. I can't rate this 5 only because on our second week they kicked off construction work that we were not notified about which was major work at that so we felt it was a bit disruptive. We didn't use the Hideaway pool as it was just a bit too loud/busy for us so we preferred to use the pool at Royalton as there was more space and beds. I would highly recommend staying here though if you are considering it. I don't think we would stay again though but that is only because there are so many other hotels to try out. Enjoy.More
This was our second time staying at the Royalton Hideaway. We stayed there in 2015, 6 months after they opened; our stay this time was just as wonderful. We paid for an ocean view room and requested that our room face the pool and not mangroves. The rooms are tastefully decorated and spacious. We loved the rain shower - shower heads. We had a wonderful room with a great view for half the week and decided to use some of our resort credit and pay a little extra to upgrade the remainder of the week to a swim out, since they had a room available in the building we preferred. Mainly for the convenience of a first floor room, as well as being able to enjoy the pool activities and sun, right from our swim out. We had the perfect swim out location and got to enjoy both types of room during our stay. The first half of the week - 4th floor, beautiful views and then second half of week â 1st floor convenience and use of swim out. I would suggest if you get a swim out that you stay in building 2 or 3. They are better located and get more sun. The food is very, very good. Our favorite restaurants were the Italian, Hunters Steak House and most definitely Doradoâs at the Hideaway. The seafood there is amazing. We heard many people ranting about their food as well, especially if you like seafood. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner there. All great meals with beautiful views of the beach. We ate there many mornings for breakfast, a dinner downstairs (with a different menu) and got surf and turf and ate our last dinner upstairs eating more steak and seafood. It was by far our best meal of the week. We did make effort to take the time to eat lunch at some of the other restaurants so that we could try them all. If you want to eat dinner at the Zen (hibachi grill), it is the only restaurant that requires reservations. They start taking reservations at 3pm and ask that you make it the same day that you want the reservation. We enjoyed that as well. In addition, you can order lunch from the wait staff from both the beach and pool, delivered right to your lounge chair, Also mentioning, there was always room service that was delivered promptly. There was always fun poolside activities planned every day and great entertainment at night. I would suggest to look at the guide on your TV daily to find out what is going on daily at the resort. They have special things going on for hideaway guests that I would have missed out on during the day and at night if I had not looked at the guide on the TV. I can not say enough about the staff. Every one of them were so accommodating and tried very hard to make our stay luxurious. All of them made me feel as if I was the only person staying there. We did tip often, to many of the staff, but not in large amounts. We tipped every meal, frequently to the pool and beach staff and to room service staff as well. However, I did notice some people did not tip as frequent and received the same service. It was just our preference. The only negative comment I will make is that there were times we did have to wait for long periods of times to get our drinks at the pool and beach. However, it was not the staffs fault. They worked nonstop and very hard. Royalton should provide more bar and wait staff in those areas. We always made effort to stop in the lounges in other areas of the resort. The staff had more time to tend to you. The drinks there were top notch. We particularly enjoyed the lobby lounge as well as had a few great drinks from the Hideaway check in lounge. We would always ask for top shelf liquor in those areas. I would also like to mention that we were not approached or hassled one time for a time share tour as others have complained about or had any issues with children being in the adult area. Lastly, I would like to thank Carey Driscoll from Beach Bum Vacations for booking our trip. I credit her for helping us get the special requests we made regarding our room and other requests. She does everything for you. She has booked 4 vacations for us and I highly recommend her if you need assistance. She is very prompt to respond and does not charge any extra fee to book as well has you have the security to call someone experienced if there are issues. All contact is made either via phone or email, whatever your preference is. Beach Bum Vacations was recommended in a resort review I read and I looked her up from there. Overall, here are a few of my tips. 1. Take plenty of sunscreen and over the counter items like tylenol & tums, they are outrageous in the gift shops. I took a pool raft with me from home and the pool staff gladly blew it up for me. 2. Pay for an upgrade/ocean view room and ask to face the pool. If you desire a swim out room, request building 2 or 3. 3. Check the guide on your TV for daily and evening activities/entertainment; especially in the Hideaway. 4. Nexus have booths and staff throughout the resort. Buy a $3.00 wrist band and have the guide take you on the small catamaran boat ride. Itâs right on Royaltonâs beach and about 20 minutes long. It was fun. 5. If you plan on tipping, I suggest take small bills with you so you donât have to get change there. Almost all our spending money that we took was in singles and fives. Itâs cumbersome to travel with, but convenient. 6. All the food is very good, including the buffet. If you chose to eat at the Zen Hibachi grill, go to Zen at 3pm (we got in line at 2:30) to book your reservation for that night. We did have to wait about 45 minutes to book our reservation which was inconvenient but worth it. Try Doradoâs if you like seafood. Hunters, Armadillo and the Italian are also very good. 7. Look up Carey from Beach Bum Vacations if you need assistance booking your trips. More
I do not normally post negative reviews, my biggest complaint is that I sent a complaint (pretty much what I have written below) to the resort on the 2/5 , they have not had the courtesy to reply personally. They contacted the travel agent who I cc'd in on the email and have said they will credit me $154.00 ($30 a day) which is the price difference for a room with a Jacuzzi. I paid $US$450.00 a night to stay in a luxury resort and I expected good service to match. I think that their compensation is insulting so I have asked them to donate it to the Fred Hollows Foundation where it will at least be put to good use. My husband and I recently stayed 5 nights in this resort to attend family wedding I would say that overall the staff were very friendly and clearly extremely hard working, the room was beautiful. The check in experience was very good and it made us feel that our stay there would be rather special. The special experience pretty much ended about the same time as we were given wrist bands, and to say that the remainder of our stay was disappointing would be an understatement. Our first issue occurred with the Jacuzzi, when we went to fill it the water drained straight out, we were unable to find any switch or valve so called room service who said they would send maintenance. We waited for 1 ½ hrs for maintenance to arrive he opened a locked door under the Jacuzzi and shut a valve, when I asked how we could drain the Jacuzzi after use he explained that we would have to call maintenance again. It seems to me that this resort is providing a Jacuzzi but they donât actually want their guests to use it. In this instance as we had already wasted 1 ½ hrs and had plans so we did not have time to fill and use it. The following afternoon we went to use the Jacuzzi and it became clear after about 5 minutes of filling that there was insufficient hot water. I went to guest services and was advised that they would send maintenance, when I queried what maintenance were going to do as it appeared to be a lack hot water I was told that it could be another issue?? I trudged back to our room and waited, after another hour I went back to guest services and explained that I was not willing to remain trapped in our room waiting, we were meeting friends for diner and were out of time. I spoke to someone else who admitted that there was a hot water problem. So why was I sent back to wait on maintenance? After that we gave up on trying using the Jacuzzi, but had the same problem with the bath, after partially filling and still below the jets, we ran out of hot water. There were many little things that went onto irritate us, singularly they probably would not have mattered, but combined they all just made a farce of this âluxury resortâ. Room Service, Wine and Beer: When we booked our trip to Mexico I was well aware that it was not a wine loverâs destination, I found their house wine unpalatable but I was happy to pay to purchase a better bottle. There was no wine list in our room and I could not find one on the TV menu. I rang room service to order some and was transferred 3 times, no one was able to confirm if there is a wine list on the TV menu, and if so how to find it. When I asked where I could see the wine selection room service advised they had one would I like the $115.00 bottle or the $75.00 one, really, I am expected to select on price alone? So I went to reception and looked at the wine menu, selected one and went back to my room to order. Again I was repeatedly transferred and asked the same questions. I waited and waited for room service, as we were meeting friends we ran out of time so assuming it ever was delivered we missed it. The following day I placed the order again and it arrived 1.5 hrs later without wine glasses. I asked at several bars and restaurants if I could purchase a glass or bottle or wine and was told that the wine for sale was only available through room service. We later had a meal at the Culinary Experience Restaurant, which I would fully recommend, look for it as it is well hidden. They did offer wine for sale, the waiter was very helpful and showed me the selection on an iPad. I was annoyed that the selection differed from the one at reception and note that there were actually several good wines available that were much less expensive (than the printed menu), obviously I wonder if their omission from the wine list is intentional. I wonder why they cannot provide an update list on your TV menu. My husband was happy to see that every bar had Heineken on tap, his beer of choice, unfortunately all but one bar advised him that the Heineken tap was out of order or broken. We tried ordering from room service on two other occasions when asked what the wait time would be we were told no more than ½ hr on each occasion we waited at least an hour before giving up and going out. Pool Towels: I would challenge you to find a pool towel available after 10am, clearly other guests realised that it was necessary to secure towels early, as many had towels hoarded up on their loungers. The first day I wondered around the pool areas for about ¾ of an hr, then I went down to the beach I did find a man handing out towels, he refused to give me one as I was not staying on the beach, apparently I had to get a towel from the pool area, I explained that I could not find a âtowel stationâ around any of the pools to no avail. Eventually I went to my room and used one of the bath towels. The following day I again tried to get a pool towel but could not find anyone giving them out, eventually I took one that I found on a desk in one of the foyers and kept this for the remainder of my stay. I never once came across a âtowel stationâ for the remainder of our stay. Other guests advised you had to get them 1st thing in the morning. View: We booked a room with an ocean view a privilege we paid US$197. extra for, for our entire stay we overlooked a small pile of trash bags that were dumped above the high tide mark. Restaurants: Clearly the resort was a capacity and the restaurants were not able to cope with the demand, each evening we had 2 hour waits to get seats in a restaurant. If we asked if we could book for the following night we were told we had to do this the next day, the next day were told we could not book until after 3pm. I cannot think of a practical reason for this, why does this resort continually make their guests go out of their way when then could easily provide a service at the time? Small things: The resort provides tea and coffee making facilities in room. The percolator in the room does not heat the water hot enough to brew tea, and obviously you cannot make tea and coffee at the same time, they provided sugar, maybe teaspoons would have also be useful. The sachets were not once replenished and there was no milk provided. On the subject of teaspoons only once when we had breakfast were we provided a teaspoon with our tea/coffee, a small compliant I know, but this is a luxury resort. I needed to check out early to get a 7am flight, I was not surprised to find that there was not anywhere that I could get a cup of coffee at that time, sure it would not be a big ask to have some coffee available for early arrivals/departures. The lady did suggest I could try room serviceâ¦.. Overall the resort is beautiful the staff are friendly and very hard working, it does however appear that at the time of our stay they were at capacity and clearly unable to provide the experience that they promise. What a huge disappointment.More
