The Pestana Alvor South Beach has recently opened, and brings a touch of Miami to the Algarve.
This hotel has only recently opened its doors. It’s been designed to mimic the Art Deco properties along the real South Beach in Miami. Expect contemporary interiors, with old-school touches like pyjama-striped wallpaper.
Alvor Beach is right at the foot of this hotel. In fact, you just have to walk through the pool area to reach the fine, creamy sands. The old-world charm of Alvor village is just a 10-minute walk away.

Stayed at PASB for 2 weeks in September. The hotel is low rise and of boutique style which we love. Had an amazing sea view suite with a balcony. Fresh orchid in the room and all the usual toiletries and bath robes. The mural on the ceiling is a little disconcerting but different. There were only a handful of hangers but on asking for more there was no problem at all. 10 arrived promptly. We had a lovely greeting on arrival by a lady with dark hair, didn't get her name, who also gave us a glass of fab Gin which was much better than the usual drinks you are given on arrival. She also helped us to our room and took our luggage up so did all jobs which when busy I can imagine is very difficult! All reception staff were very pleasant and helpful however Liliana could come across as being a little short at times so needs to address her attitude sometimes and not pull faces when someone walks away as you never know who is watching! The manager was a very pleasant chap and also took great pride in the reception area. We had no problem getting a sun bed/1 brolly however the canopied beds were saved by the same people for most of our 2 weeks. All I can say is if they are happy getting up at 6am to reserve them they are more than welcome! I certainly won't on my holidays! However the hotel needs to live up to the policy of not reserving as some people left them for hours whilst they went to the beach etc. They also need to make sure that all users are staying at the hotel as some definitely were friends not staying. Guests are not paying for others use. All the bar staff were all very friendly and worked hard to please all customers. They regularly came round the pool asking if you wanted drinks, ice creams etc. The drinks are a little on the expensive side but all hotels charge more than the going rate. We loved the breakfast set up, very quirky and modern. Lots of choice and Could order boiled, fried eggs etc if you wanted. The basket chairs outside were fab and so comfy to sit in. All in all we had an amazing holiday so much so we have already booked for next year. The hotel is very expensive for a four star and may have started to outprice itself. with the following recommendations it will make it perfect:- Use of sunbeds from 9am only And check guests are staying there! This has worked at many hotels I have stayed in. Replace chipped cutlery as it carries germs, coffee/tea making facilities in bedrooms, ice making machine on each floor as there is no ice box in the room fridge, waste buckets on tables, another toaster at breakfast time, peanuts/crisps with drinks in the evening. I look forward to staying again next year.👍More
BEST HOTEL IN ALVOR BY FAR
I just can't see what all the moaners are going on about...this hotel is epic. Spotlessly clean - the ladies are in every day changing the bedding and cleaning the room, the pool area was so relaxing loads of sunbeds to choose from the buffet breakfast was self explanatory, loads to choose from, hot and cold and every member of staff was absolutely lovely, nothing was too much trouble. We had an early checkout and they asked us if we would like a breakfast bag to take away! Amazing! My only slight niggle is the lack of a decent map of the area, the photocopied sheet of paper doesn't really cut it and we had to get a decent map in town. If we ever come back to Alvor I would book this hotel in a heartbeat.More
No heart and no feeling of being welcome
I had booked the hotel for a friend with her kids while staying in another hotel in the Algarve. From arrival onwards they never felt welcome. At arrival in the evening no help was offered with regards to the luggage and the family was not accompagnied to the room (directions were given). With two tired young kids and quite some luggage (14 nights stay at the hotel!) absolutely not friendly. Even more astonishing was the fact that my friend had to pay the entire stay in advance (more than 6000 euro). The booking was guaranteed by me but they insisted on her paying. As her credit card did not have enough daily limit (2000 euro a day) they harrassed the family for three days to pay in installments. No time was given to arrange the payment in a different way. On the third day they blocked the room with all their stuff inside and told one of the kids (who wanted to get inside) to get his mum as she did not pass by for the third installment (4000 euro was already paid in the first two days). Hotel policy was due to bad experience as was later explained. In all my travels I have never encountered such a cold reception. An easy way to solve the problem was to daily block an amount, as many hotels do which have had problems with guest in the past. Besides the cold shoulder the hotel lacks atmosphere and the pool area is windy. I hope they will become more guest friendly. More
Good hotel...but a few hiccups..
Firstly the main strength of this hotel I believe are the young friendly staff. Always there with a smile and to offer help when needed. I found the hotel culture a little confusing as it is modern and laid back, however the vast majority of guests were older and not altogether appreciative of pop videos at breakfast time. It is in a great location close to the beach and 10 minutes to town where there is a wide variety of restaurants. Breakfast was good but another feature of this hotel is limited information - no directions to rooms or the spa and at breakfast you have to find your own way around the buffet and what is on offer. I wasn't happy with the chipped crockery that I found on offer every morning - not what you would expect in a four star hotel. Our main quibble was around the pool. The pool area is quiet and relaxing, however sun brollies were in demand and as they were of poor quality they broke and didn't appear to be replaced. This led to a good deal of towels claiming beds in the morning with everyone ignoring the note not to leave the beds unattended. There was rarely a member of staff around so the empty beds covered with towels were never touched. We also noted some guests around the pool area who we don't think were staying at the hotel (we saw some guests walk across the road to another block of apartments), which we felt was an issue. We paid £2688 for two weeks bed and breakfast so didn't think that a sun brolly was too much to ask for. I accept it is difficult for hotel staff when some guests insist on having two beds and a brolly each! The rooms were stylish but I struggled for two weeks with just 8 coat hangers and thought the sink was a ridiculous design which meant with a wooden slatted top it wasn't properly clean. Overall a good stay - split decision - my husband would return but I would try somewhere else.More
Great location, relaxed and young staff, awesome hotel experience
In September 2017 we have been to PASB. It is honestly the best boutique hotel experience we've ever made in our lives. Of course it's all about people so I guess it wouldn't have been such an awesome experience without Samantha who took care of us so lovely, warm and with an open heart. She is one of a kind and a big win for PASB and is the reason to visit this hotel again. So if you are there watch out for Samantha the pool girl and Luiz the bar man! Beyond that the hotel concept is just great. They combine top-notch Algarve luxury and stylish design together with a very young staff which sums up to an inviting, easy and relaxed atmosphere. We had a suite with ocean view and every detail was just perfect and made us smile. And it is just a few steps to get to the beach, a 15 minutes walk to Praia dos tres irmaos and 15 minutes to go to Alvor where you get the best fish.More
