No1 ranking fully deserved
Have just spent 3 nights here on a last minute short break. Arrived by 11am to be told our room was ready and we could check in immediately which was a lovely surprise. The staff on reception are very helpful The apartment was lovely. Very spacious and clean. Well equipped kitchen and huge balconies that are not overlooked. There is a pool and small bar with plenty of loungers and a separate sun terrace. Really close to the beach and a small shopping centre. Short walk to the strip but far enough away not be affected by the noise. If you are looking for a quiet peaceful resort this place is ideal. Will definitely be back More

Great small friendly hotel but some areas need attention
Recently returned from a week holiday at this hotel. Our Thomson flight was an early morning start and we arrived at our hotel by about 10.30am but were told the rooms weren't available until 3pm (it would help if Thompson had some late morning flights to Faro). We happily left our cases in the hotel's secure room and made use of the complimentary changing room which had a toilet, basin and large shower although no towels so we couldn't really freshen up properly. We then headed down to the beach (a 2 minute walk away) and sat with drinks and a snack to people watch and pass the time. Reception told us they would call us if our room became available sooner. By about 1pm we had had enough of sitting in the bar/restaurant and so headed back to reception in the hope our room would be ready sooner. Unfortunately it was not, but we did see quite a few other people arrive with cases whilst we were there who seem to either get their rooms straight away or within a short period of time, and definitely before us. We eventually got our room at about 2.30pm, which although was still earlier than the 3pm check-in time, but it did make for a long day of waiting around and not really being able to relax fully and get into holiday-mode. Come on Thomson sort out your flight times. The room itself (number 46) was really nice; the layout being a lounge with a concrete L-shaped sofa with thick/comfortable enough padding to be used as a sofabed, sliding doors out onto a large suntrap patio area with a table and 4 chairs, then within the same space as the lounge was a kitchen with a small island/breakfast bar, 2-ring electric hob, fridge, kettle, microwave and cupboards. There was also a tea towel and washing up liquid provided from a dispenser attached to the wall. Cutlery, crockery, pots and pans and glasses were provided enough for 4 people. There was also a 4-seater dining table within the same open plan room. From the lounge/kitchen/diner was a small hallway with a double wardrobe, drawers and a safe (1.50 euros per day with a 15 euro refundable deposit - I always think it's a rip off to be charged for the safe). This wardrobe also contained extra towels, blankets and pillows. Leading off the hallway was a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a shower curtain (pet hate!). A separate large bedroom had twin beds pushed together (1 bed was too hard but the other was perfect) with sheets, blankets and a pillow each. Within the bedroom was also a small stool and a narrow shelf with a large mirror over (good for sitting and doing make-up/hair), also a large full length mirror, and patio doors leading to a small outside space with chairs off the bedroom. The only negative comments about the apartment are all to do with the bathroom. There was no window or extractor fan but just the smallest air vent which was no use to anyone. Consequently the bathroom was extremely steamed up after even a short lukewarm shower and the bathroom smelt heavily of mould which got progressively worse as the week went on. There was also mould present on the ceiling above the bath and around some of the edges. We also noticed that mould was present in the bedroom, mainly above and around the patio door area. We did keep both sets of patio doors open as often as we could when we were in the apartment, but the bathroom definitely needs some attention as the problem (already not great) will only escalate. Also, we HATE shower curtains and ours wasn't looking it's best. The weather was extremely pleasant all week with a breeze flowing through. We sunbathed around the pool for the week as we heard people saying that down on the beach was quite cold with the breeze and they were coming back quite burnt. However, the beach is definitely worth a visit - we did go for walks on the beach in the late afternoon and got lots of great shots as it is very picturesque. The hotel pool depth is 1.1m at the shallow end through to 1.4m at its deepest. There are plenty of sun loungers dotted around as well as umbrellas for shade, and other than a small group of ladies who felt the need to put their towels out in the morning, there was never a problem getting a lounger even if we arrived at the pool much later in the day. We took our own beach towels but reception did say that they will start providing them soon (for a charge - I don't know how much). There is also a bar called "On The Rocks" serving a range of drinks including a Cocktail of the Day, with happy hour running from 4pm to 6pm.You can also get burgers, nachos, etc from here. A guy with a guitar sang and played a couple of nights at the pool bar while we were there. Other than the negative feedback about the bathroom in our apartment the only other thing to be aware of is that there is a sunbathing deck with a few steps up from the pool area. There you will find about 12 or so sun loungers and an amazing view across to the sea. This area is surround by glass panels - there is one to the right as you go up the steps to get onto the deck, as well as a glass panel running the width of the deck at the edge where you can stand to look out towards the sea (at this point there is drop down to the roof of what was our apartment below (number 46). After returning from eating out every night we stood at the deck's edge looking out and just having a drink. We did think that the glass panel at the edge wasn't a particularly good idea, bearing in mind the drop below, and there was slight movement in it when you touched it. Unfortunately this glass proved to be an extremely bad idea when, on our last day, we witnessed the glass panel near the steps up give way and someone go completely over, landing on their back and banging their head. The hotel maintenance man and head cleaning lady made a great effort to clear up the mess of broken glass and get rid of the now broken glass panel, and the pool guys were called in and the pool hoovered to remove any broken glass. The injured person did get up and walk away, although I think the hotel staff could/should have been as concerned about the person as much as they were about clearing away the offending glass panel. When we walked through the pool area later in the evening a portable barrier with just some tape across 2 poles now replaced the glass panel and all the sun loungers were back in place on the deck. Let's hope the hotel get the glass barrier arrangement replaced with something more substantial soon. Note : reception is only manned and open from 8am until midnight. We had to return our safe key to get our refund by midnight the evening before we were due to check out at 6.30am. Between midnight and 8am a very professional and friendly security guard patrols the grounds which was reassuring. All in all, although we wouldn't return again simply because we don't generally go to the same place twice, we would recommend The Golden Beach to others. The staff are very friendly, the cleaners keep the place spotlessly clean (other than management needing to sort out the mould issue). There are quite a lot of steps to get around the hotel so wouldn't be great for someone with mobility issues. It is only a 2 minute walk downhill to a wonderful beach, a handful of restaurants, a bakery, a couple of minimarkets, a pharmacy, a café, some souvenir shops and the best ice cream parlour. 5 minutes uphill (some named it Cardiac Hill, although it really isn't bad at all) will take you to The Strip with a greater selection of restaurants as well as clubs and bars. Would definitely recommend Restaurante Donaldo's (traditional Portuguese food) just to the right ion the other side of the road at the top of the hill and Tamariz which faces you as you reach the top of the hill. We travelled as a couple and were a little surprised at the sheer volume of hen and stag parties nearby, but it didn't affect our holiday as we were able to find quite restaurants away from the carnage!More
Stayed at the Golden Beach for 4 nights and was really impressed with the apartments as to how they were presented. The studio apartment rooms we stayed in were absolutely fantastic. We had the sea view rooms which I have to say made the stay even better. Rooms were modernised and very clean. Last but not least, the staff at the reception were so friendly and helpful. Always went out of their way to help us out. If I ever go back I would definitely book this place again. 10/10ðMore
