The ClubHotel Riu Costa del Sol is a blend of two beside-the-beach hotels, which will be refurbished ready for summer 2017.
The ClubHotel Riu Costa del Sol, previously the Riu Costa Lago and the Riu Belplaya, is getting a top-to-bottom refurb for summer 2017. So, you can expect one beach-facing hotel with a glossy feel.
There’s a long sandy beach just across the road, which you can reach in less than a minute’s walk. Torremolinos’ lively centre is a little further on, and a cab gets you there in five.

Dont waste your money
Thomsons made us wait an hour on a coach in an underground car park at the airport while we waited for another flight not the best start to the holiday. Our room was ready for us as soon as we arriived (no welcome drink) the room was fine and spacious even with us using the sofa bed but we were so disappointed when we opened our balcony door to see we faced our neighbours balcony we were on the corner and their balcony was in touching distance to ours needless to say the balcony never got used once and it's normally our go to place in the late afternoon for a drink and a read. Air con really noisy I've stayed in so many hotels and this has been the worst The food was ok but towards the end of the week we were bored of it as it was the same every night and we started skipping meals. The drinks were a let down watered down wine vile vodka cocktails really bad I've seen a few reviews saying the drinks are good ??? Maybe these people only drink on holiday but if you like a drink you will not like the drinks here cheap stuff that gave me a sore throat and I only tried a few drinks then gave up in fact considering this was alll inclusive it's the least I've ever drank on holiday. The children's splash pool is still being built and so at times but not all the time to be fair you could hear them banging away still not what you want while your away and trying to relax. The Spa area needs to made in to an adults only area as their were kids running all over the place not very relaxing and let's be honest spas are not meant for kids. We just found there to be no atmosphere at the hotel maybe it's too big for us to many old people and evening entertainment needs to improve we didn't enjoy it. The house keeping was good but the cleaners were very noisy and woke me up every morning banging doors and talking to each other in fact there was more noise around the hotel at 7 in the morning then their was at 11 at night when the majority of guests were already in bed. It was a boring hotel thank god the wifi worked everywhere and there was enough English channels to keep my 14 yr old entertained. All 3 of us caught a stomach bug here and it was really nasty still ill now.I have seen another reviewer who seems to have caught the same as us. Never again and as this was my first time at a riu hotel I'll doubt I'll ever use this chain again.More
Enjoyed our week at the Rui, Costa Blanca. We arrived at about 12 noon to be met with a glass of Cava each. The check in was quick and efficient and as our room was ready we were straight in. We were lucky enough to have a 'junior suite', on the first floor overlooking the front pool, beach and sea. A fantastic view and an impressively large room for the wife and I, plus two grandkids. The toilet was separate to a large shower - only problem was that there were no hand washing facilities in the separate toilet, so didn't feel inclined to use the loo if someone was using the shower. The food was good, but there was often a wait at the busiest times. We noticed ants on one part of the main restaurant, so tended to avoid this area if possible. Pools were all excellent and at beginning of April were grateful that one was heated! Plenty of clean towels on demand and loads of sunbeds. Animation team worked very hard and I'm sure that they will improve as the season progresses. Like wise the staff in the kids club were also very good. Tried to practise my Spanish while there, but failed miserably as we only found one staff member who didn't speak excellent English! All in all it was a very good week away and I hope to return again one day.More
A few tweaks needed
I have stayed in a good number of Riu Hotels around the world, and always prefer to choose the Riu brand when looking for a holiday. I was looking forward to staying in their new hotel, having stayed previously in the Riu Belplaya which now forms part of the Riu Costa Del Sol. First impressions were good. The staff are all excellent and very helpful, and work hard to make your holiday experience that much better. All areas are spotlessly clean. The rooms are lovely, with the bathroom having a large walk in shower and two sinks. It amazed me how they carried out so much work in such little time. There are plenty of pools to choose from, three restaurants and several bars located throughout the complex. You can get beer, soft drinks and fruit juices yourself from dispensers if you donât fancy going to a bar. However, there were a few things that I feel have let Riu down at this hotel: Drinks- The alcoholic drinks are all local brands which are hidden behind the bar counter. It is not possible to obtain any branded alcoholic drinks. I feel that this is something that you would expect from a âcheaperâ all inclusive resort and certainly not a 4 star Riu hotel. The Spa- It should be renamed âTHE SCHOOL POOLâ. I was hoping to relax in the Spa, have a swim and enjoy the steam room. However, it is overrun with children, jumping in the pool, in and out of the steam room, and just being loud! I didnât think this was appropriate for a Spa. Riu should consider this being an adult only area. After all, there are many other areas and pools for children. Air Conditioning- The air conditioning is not operational. This meant that from the majority of my stay when the weather was warm, the room was stifling. I struggled to get any sleep even with the balcony door open (which created a noise issue). I complained at reception on several occasions, but the standard answer was that âit is winterâ and the air conditioning would not be switched on until summer. Not really acceptable for a guest comfort issue. So if you feel the heat, be aware before you book, or at least check when their summer commences Overall, the holiday was good and the hotel looks one of the most impressive on the promenade. More
We came here for a short break over Easter weekend. Changed so much from the first time. 2 hotels in one lovely and spacious. Nice modern bedrooms with walk in showers. 3 outdoor pools . Pool towels available daily just behind sherry bar at 5pm . Bottled water available from lobby bar or sports bar, available free on request. Choice of bars also self service areas for soft drinks wine and beer. Friendly service everywhere. Loads of Sun beds. We had amazing weather pools cold though after a few minutes was fine. Food and service excellent. Buffet restaurant lots of choice no reservations required breakfast lunch and dinner. Aduluciian restaurant buffet for breakfast , lunch , had to make reservations for evening still buffet but not so large . Italian restaurant stunning food worth making reservations early as did get full quick. Hotel easy to get to from airport we used train 1,80 euros each way . To La Colina just the 3 rd stop . Just up road from hotel. Leaves every 20 Minutes. We did a day trip to fungerola from same place Train just goes two ways Fungerola or Malaga. Animation team works very hard. Ali in reception lovely and helpful. All the team were good would definitely recommend. Thank you for a good stayMore
Unsure with what to expect as after we booked we noticed it was having a refurb. But the hotel was all done (apart from the splash pool and park ð) We arrived roughly 11am and had to wait until 3pm to check in, not too keen on this as I like to unpack first and felt like we wasted a day. I will be more prepared next time and pack a bag with all stuff I would need for the day and out it on top of my suitcase ( I have a 2 year old so I couldn't just grab our swimsuits) check in took a while. The reception looks quite small for how big the hotel is, I can imagine it being really busy in summer months. Staff are lovely and hard working. Room was all new and fresh. We did have a problem with ants but once I reported it it was dealt with straight away. I found the beds lovely and comfortable. Loads of storage for your clothes. Shower nice but towels looked a bit old and not a big bath towel. Food was really good, always something we all liked at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main buffet restaurant got very busy at times and wasn't very relaxing to eat your meal when people walk past you to go and get food. Italian really good, second visit was better. You could tell as the week went on all staff were getting used to it and better. The swimming pools have a lot of beds and places to get drinks around. The small kids pool got busier as the week went on, I can I imagine it being really busy in the summer. Entertainment was fun. My 2 year old loved the mini disco and dance competition. The entertainment area is partially outside and it was chilly at night but the had patio heaters dotted about which really helped. We didn't join in the daytime entertainment but there was stuff going on and all the entertainment team were very friendly. The location is great, just over the road from the beach and if you turn right on the front and have a good walk it will take you to loads of shops and bars. Overall a great holiday and would love to go again. More
