Perfectly decent apartments for a week at a good price
We wanted a family holiday to Ibiza. I'm a long time frequent visitor and ex summer worker over there but my usual trips have mainly revolved around the night scene, getting mangled and going with mates. With a partner, 2 year old and 9 year old in tow, being asked every 10 minutes if I want 'anything for going out tonight' (and it has gotten so bad I've seen kids as young as 12 or 13 approached) as is the case in San Antonio, Playa den Bossa et al is not however ideal and Portinatx is one of the few remaining areas of the island where drugs and dance music have not yet invaded - I don't have an issue with either but don't want my kids seeing it at their ages - when 18 they can make their own mind up. It has 3 lovely beaches in easy walking distance (admittedly down a steep slope or steps) and fab quite unspoilt beaches nearby. It's also a mini resort in itself with everything you need (supermarkets, shops selling tourist tat, restaurants) ranging from English pie and chips, to pizza to some decent seafoood / paella places) and is still only 40 mins drive from Ibiza town. If you're willing to drive 15 -20 minutes some very well respected restaurants are also within reach. We chose the Apartamientos del Rey basically because it was cheap (£280 for a week + £140 for flights for 4 people). You will need a car (this was actually the most expensive part at over £400 for a week which is pretty outrageous for a Corsa). The apartment was a 2 bed room affair with travel cot and high chair for the little one. It was perfectly fine. By no means luxurious but came set in pretty gardens, with large outside covered terrace, small kitchen with fridge, sink, oven, hob and microwave, a TV (I do, but if you don't speak Spanish you'll be limited to Sky News and BBC News 24 though), comfortable enough beds and a decent, hot shower and bath. Usual Spanish style (white walls, pine cabinets, lethal tiled floor - be very careful if they or your feet are wet or you will be on your backside. Everywhere was also always very clean. There are two pools. A large infinity pool overlooking the stunning Portinatx bay and a shallow child's wading pool. A pool bar sells snacks, drinks, light meals and (if ordered in advance) delicious crunchy skinned takeaway roast chickens (done the Spanish way with herbs, garlic, wine and a drop of brandy) which make an excellent cheap dinner with some bread and salad when not venturing out. A restaurant is under the apartments, sells good sea food at a reasonable price and guests get 10% off both food and drink. All staff went out of their way to help - as an example I have some mobility problems and our initial apartment was on the very top floor as it has the best views (which meant climbing 3 long flights of stairs) when mentioned to staff we were immediately moved to the ground floor which required no stair climbing. We had a nice, relaxed time. The apartment was perfectly good for a week or two. Hard to rate it to be honest. If based on the room itself only it'd be a 3* as it is only an average cheapo apartment (the price for design hotel or luxury in Ibiza now however is utterly outrageous and simply not worth the money - £2000 per week at Hard Rock in July anyone?) but if based on the pool, staff, facilities and value for the money I'd give it a solid 4*.More
Dirty rooms. Pool salt water. Rooms not cleaned in a week beds or towels not changed. No staff from 1pm on site. Reception only open 9am-1pm. Restaurant onsite sells horrible food. Wires loose on plugs. Rooms dated n smell.More
can only find one fault!
Room excellent, spotlessly cleaned, everything we needed, kettle a bit slow to boil but it IS Spain, lol! Beds comfortable, balcony large, side & front views as we had a corner room. Food in restaurant was excellent in my view & I'm very very fussy. Excellent other restaurants nearby anyway. Towels/tea towel/ bathmats changed every other day....my one fault is the towels are like drying yourself with sandpaper....but that could just be me used to fluffy towels. Certainly the worst I've ever had in a hotel home or abroad. Pool area fabulous....plenty of sunbeds, all brand new..view from the infinity bit of pool is fabulous. Reception is open plenty of time, you just need to check for times! We arrived out of hours, we advised in advance & someone was there to greet us & take us to our room. All I can say is that I think you have a whole different experience booking direct thru apartments website rather than the various booking agents that offer the accomodation. Worked out much cheaper too for us. We been here a week, 3 more days to go...loving it. Thankyou del rey apartments & staff & the wonderful establishments within Portinatx....10/10 whole holiday. Will return with friends soon.More
Lovely hotel. Just in need of some updating.
When we arrived the lady in reception was welcoming and friendly, gave us some helpful information about the hotel and was kind enough to show us to our apartment. The apartment was spacious and had all the essentials, the beds were comfortable and there was air conditioning in the bedroom, which we were grateful for during the hot nights. Unfortunately the decor lets the apartment down a little bit as the apartment was in need of some updating, but this didn't spoil our enjoyment as we were out most of the day exploring, by the pool or on our fabulous balcony. The balcony we had was amazing, large with a table and chairs and gorgeous views over the beach and out to sea. We spent many evenings sat on the balcony playing cards in the evenings and enjoying the views. You can hear the entertainment and music from other hotels at night, which we enjoyed and it was quiet by midnight. Our apartment was a fair walk from the reception and we had to climb several stairs. There was no lift access to the floor our apartment was on, this was not a problem for us but it would not be suitable for wheel chair users or people with poor mobility. The pool area is gorgeous and was not ever busy or over crowded. There was always spare sunbeds and the staff working in the pool bar were friendly and always in a good mood and willing to have a laugh and a joke with you. The view from the infinity pool is spectacular! The only thing I noticed was the swimming pool gets very deep very quickly, so there's not much shallow area. However there is a small children's pool for kids. The location is wonderful, directly opposite the most beautiful beach. Plenty of restaurants and a convenience store, beach shops and souvenir shops are within walking distance. The hotel has its own restaurant just downstairs opposite the beach, and guests staying at the hotel were given 10% off their bill throughout their stay. You can book onto day trips at the reception or at a stand selling boat trips just up the road. There is also a lovely tourist train, which runs trips to a local village, some caves and other locations. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would stay again, although I hope they improve and update the apartment interior as this is the only thing that lets this gem of a hotel down. Although we were able to stay here for a very reasonable price, so I think it's wonderful value for money.More
Not very helpful
We arrived here to find no one on reception someone came and showed us to our apartment to find it hadn't been cleaned and was filthy (we arrived at 16.30) we was told to leave our luggage on balcony and come back in a hour n half after cleaners had been in, never saw cleaners again just brought clean towels in once which was like sand paper, not a good start, very basic, hob didn't work, all plug sockets coming away from wall, wanted a safe to find out we had to use the Ones in reception as rooms don't have them! Staff not very helpful, wifi terrible, best thing about it was the view from the balcony, the location and the restaurant down stairs which isn't part of the apartments!More
