Puerto Pollensa

Majorca’s glam side

In case you wanted to know, Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas have both been spotted holidaying here. It’s no surprise that Puerto Pollensa is an A-list resort, though. Set on the northern tip of Majorca, it’s a world away from its brasher counterparts, with a chic marina and some of the best restaurants on the island.

Golden-sand beaches

You’ve got an A-list beach here, too. It’s a horseshoe-shaped stretch which comes with wide golden sands, along with some fetching mountain views. The strip to the left of the marina gets busy – it’s where the bars and restaurants are. Go to the right and the beach is wider, so you’ve acres of space. Whichever side you choose, you’ll find sunbeds and plenty of watersports.

A chic marina

The yacht-lined marina gives Puerto Pollensa a bit of class. During the day you can rent a boat here, or hook up with a glass-bottomed boat tour. In the evening, taking an evening walk around it is something of a local pastime. You can do it in about 20 minutes, unless you stop for a leisurely drink en route.

Day trips to Palma

It’s an hour to Majorca’s sophisticated capital, Palma. You can’t miss the Gothic cathedral. Literally – it dominates the skyline. After you’ve explored the cobbled old town, jump back into the 21st century at the Passeig des Born – it’s Palma’s answer to Regent Street and it’s bagged all the best lunch spots, too.
