After reading many trip advisor reviews and great feedback from friends, my partner and I decided to book the Gloria Palace Hotel (through On The Beach) for our honeymoon for 14 nights. On arrival, the staff were slow and quite miserable but nice enough. It was 10pm and as dinner had finished, they offered us a cold buffet of food to be brought up to our rooms but we declined the kind offer. When we found our room, we noticed that we had two single beds pushed together and that the sea view that we had paid for was not quite what we expected. Being in block one, we were level with the pool and so our view was of the pool and if you look far enough ahead, you can see the sea. The reception then rang us twice asking if we wanted the cold buffet...which we kept politely refusing. The third time they rang they informed us the buffet was on its way and too late to cancel it (although we never said we wanted it). 45 minutes later (it's about 11:30 by this point) the buffet arrived... which we didn't eat as we were both ill and it wasn't taken from our room for two days (it was hams, cheeses and salads -so things that shouldn't be kept in a warm room). When we addressed the problem of the two single beds, the lady behind reception looked at me like an idiot, it was only down to my husband's persistence that we managed to get a double mattress TOPPER.....on the FOURTH day!! The room cleaners were amazing although it seemed that some days they only did a half clean and left the dirty towels and did not replenish teas and coffees. As mentioned, it was our honeymoon and I was (perhaps optimistically) expected either a fruit basket, bottle of bubbly or even a congratulations but they truly didn't care less. This hotel is not, in short, for anyone under the age of 35 or who is well travelled. The hotel is a little run down down and does not deserve the fourth star that it has. There is not much to do and the hotel staff (except the waiters who were among the best I've ever met) made it seem like a chore to offer any assistance. The food was simple and nice. We were half board and for the amount that we paid for the hotel, we expected perfection, we got middle of the road. The hotel is clean and tidy, beautiful inside and huge. Those in charge need to establish the smoking policy in the hotel as I have asthma among other allergies and there were many smokers by the pool and next to our balcony. People and place were pleasant enough but the hotel management need to address these issues.More

Probably great if you're lucky to get a higher up room...
Booked this for our honeymoon. All the rooms are facing the sea, but if you're unlucky like us and end up with a room on level 1, you get more of a pool area view instead of a sea view...quite disappointing tbh. I also sent a request months before to ask that we have a double bed rather than two singles...that didn't happen. Told reception as soon as we saw our room, and they essentially suggested we push the beds together. After 4 days of mentioning it every day we finally ended up with a double mattress topper and double sized quilt, which, was better than nothing. I did mention it's our honeymoon which is why i was more annoyed than I'd usually be, but that didn't even register to them atall. Just pissed off that I payed the same amount as lots of other people who got an Actual sea view and the type of bed/room they asked for. I could see the odd empty room so wondered why they couldn't just put us in a different one but oh well. - Hotel restaurant is buffet and very high standard which I can't fault. If you're half-board, you have to request a meal change at reception if you want lunch instead of dinner. Also you still have to pay for drinks with your meals. Room: - On level 1, we had a view of the pool area... could just about see the sea over the pool wall though. - Most staff are very friendly. - About 5 English TV channels: Challenge, Pick, Community, BBC World News, Sky News, that was about it. No BBC 1, 2, ITV, 4 or 5 which is annoying. (It's a smart TV but had no internet connection which makes me think why spend all the money on it then.) - Room's air-con works just about. - A fridge that probably got to about 8°C at best. - Kettle worked - WiFi throughout worked pretty well. - Radio in the wall which only plays the hotel's background music which is just funny. - Decent wardrobe size - A safe which you have to give a â¬5 deposit to use, then â¬2.60 per day to use... - They put glass bottles of water in your room each day but you're charged if you drink it. - Bathroom was nice enough. Summary: To be honest if i came back to Gran Canaria I wouldn'tâ stay here again, as the price wasn't that great for what you actually get. We were just unlucky with the position of the room we got, and just that extra annoyance as it was our honeymoon, but hey the room isn't everything. Felt a bit 3 star at times even though it's a 4 star hotel. Their Spa was nice, but veryâ overpriced. They gave us a half price voucher for it after a week, so good job we hadn't used it yet. If you're not fussy and you've got money to spend then you'll probably find it decent here. More
My boyfriend and I had a fantastic holiday here, getting back last week - it was marginally more expensive than a lot of other hotels in Gran Canaria but we really felt it was worth it. The staff could not have been more helpful, the facilities were great, the room was beautiful and very large. The entertainment wasn't always brilliant but that's to be expected - some acts were great, however. I would definitely recommend this hotel and go back if we returned to Gran Canaria.More

We stayed for 1 week and enjoyed every moment. Excellent service from all the staff and the hotel facilities are as advertised. We arrived at 10:30pm and were provided with a cold buffet in the restaurant, a good selection and very tasty. On our last day we were given a voucher for lunch as we would be leaving the hotel before evening meal was served. Our double sea view room was spacious and included a large settee, 2 chairs and a table. Kettle, cups etc with 2 bottles of complimentary water per day and free use of fridge. The hotel is large and it can be tricky to find your way around but reception provide a map at check in. If you can remember the block you need to be in for the area you require then it's fine. There's several lifts located in block 4, go to level 7 to access the promenade, it's a short stroll to The Europa Centre or the 2 beaches. Turn right for Amadores beach which is less crowded and the sea was shallow and warm. There are lockers, showers and toilets, all very clean. At the very end of the promenade there's a well kept crazy golf course. Well worth 5 Euro per adult for an hour or so fun. There's a small bar/cafe where you can add up your scores. To walk to The Europa Centre from the hotel takes approx 20 minutes. It's left out of the hotel, along the promenade, turn left at the Spa supermarket follow the park path to the subway, slight incline after the subway, you'll reach McDonalds, the bars and the shops. Charlie'z Bar is located on the harbour and is worth a visit, the 2 guys that work there are a good team and the cocktails are excellent value. The piano guy that plays at 10pm is good fun too. We had an excellent week, excellent hotel, excellent food, excellent weather, what more could we want.More
