Very good - almost a 5
We found this to be a very good hotel, and it only missed a 5 rating thanks to a decidedly mixed reception experience. The rooms are large and clean, and almost all have a good view with a sunbed balcony. A/C worked fine. We were in 22xx which was great, but we'd recommend against 20xx as it is at pool level. Wifi was fine. The pool areas were large and well maintained, with enough sunbeds to go around. The activities team were generally enthusiastic, with some outstanding leaders. The mini club (for kids) did its job well, particularly around the one main event every day, such as cake decorating. The mini disco at 8pm was much loved, and it was nice to find the rather hidden post-disco entertainment for kids in the corner. The two main shows we saw were good and kept us entertained, although the warm up acts were nothing special. Be aware that the main show is at 21:30 if you have kids, and though we tried, it wasn't possible to get babysitters. The food was good and plentiful, and we'd recommend either Half Board or All Inclusive as the way to go, particularly as it is a fair way to any local restaurant. Our main complaint with the food is that they missed a "simple" vegetable choice most evenings, such as carrots or peas. Sadly, the layout of the food is very long and thin, with limited space to walk around, creating some bottlenecks. Only one spoon for the ice cream isn't the best idea either! The snack bar was fine, although had a relatively limited choice of smaller items. Reception is fundamentally a mixed bag. There are some good staff members, but there are more who are less good. On arrival, we were asked if we'd like a welcome drink, and then not given one - a far worse start than not being offered a drink at all. There are clearly lots of trainees, but the observation of the new staff seemed lacking. In fact, it could be argued that there are too many reception staff, such that no one takes responsibility. Be aware that they charge you for the safe and need a deposit IN CASH, plus they need a deposit for the pool towels IN CASH, so this isn't somewhere you can go without actual Euro cash. One nice aspect is that the hotel has free underground parking. One thing to bear in mind though is that there is no good pedestrian access out of the car park, so you have to take your life in your hands to walk up the car ramp. I'd advise dropping passengers and children at the entrance, so only the driver has to face this! Overall, we'd go back. It was a very good hotel that did pretty much everything we needed it to do, and the reception experience wasn't so terrible that it would put me off.More
Absolutely fabulous hotel~ choice of food was extensive and catered for everyone ( we all ate far too much!!). All staff could not do enough for us and genuinely cared we were happy. I'm sure that this hotel must really look after their staff as they all appeared so happy.More
Glorious Gloria Palace
My wife and I reluctantly and sadly arrived home yesterday after what can only be described as a glorious week at the excellent Gloria Palace Amadores Hotel. Every member of staff we had any dealings with were so lovely, smiley, polite and helpful to the point that nothing was too much trouble for them. The food for 4* AI had to rate at the top of all the hotels we have stayed in, a credit to all involved including staff behind the scenes in the kitchens. Thank you to all the bar staff for their efficient, polite and happy service especially Rachael at the Salon Bar happily pushing her cocktail trolley around and creates the most wonderful Mojito. The rooms are lovely, nice size lovely views and kept immaculate by the hard working cleaners of which ours for the week was Esther, a lovely lady. Two fantastic pool areas with ample sun loungers, parasols and side tables and scrubbed down first thing every morning before the guests arrive. Only one very minor little request I would make is maybe consider adding a small salad to the AI menu at the snack bar. All in all we had a wonderful week and would like to highly recommend the Gloria Palace Amadores to anyone looking for a holiday in what can only be described as Heaven On Earth. Thank you very much to all for making our holiday so memorable in room 2601B we will be back.More
Great Hotel, Excellent Location.
Just arrived home after a very good holiday in this hotel. The hotel is of a very high standard, all the staff are very friendly and smile. The rooms are big and all seem to have a great sea view, ours did, the hotel feels like a cruise ship as it's so close to the sea, everywhere you walk you see the see either through huge glass or glass safety rails. There are plenty of sun beds around both pools, the pools are heated. We both loved the location of this hotel as there is a lift down to the 'Chinese wall' walk way between Amadoras beach and Puerto Rico. Both only 10 mins walk away. No other hotel has this access, they are way up the hill. The walk way is lovely. The hotel reception was very grand and reception staff very friendly and helpful. We where All inclusive and premium brands where included, Smirnoff Vodka for example. The Restaurant was very good with a very good choice of food. There where chefs who cooked the meats and some dishes fresh as you like. Because of the location of the hotel it was lovely to sit at the pool bar in a comfy chair and watch the sun go down evey evening. Wifi is very good all over the hotel. Our plan now on returning home is to diet and plan our return to this excellent hotel in the future.More

Another 5 star vsit
Just returned from another week at Gloria Palace weather was very hot for first week in march so made use of the air conditioning. Food very good something for everyone rooms excellent we were in block 2 floor 2 by lower pool had sun on balcony most of the day room cleaned daily and towels changed when required . Entertainment a bit hit and miss Only problem we had was when a chair disintegrated under the wife in the reception bar one night leaving her extremely embarrassed in a heap on the floor and no one enquirers if she was alright. We have allready booked for 10 days in June when we are taking the daughter whose 30th birthday it is with her boyfriend . We have tried to book the same block but at a higher level 6th or 7th floor but were told to try nearer the time of arrival. All told a great holiday again made better by great company.More
