Holidays to Playa del Ingles take you straight to Gran Canaria’s loudest, proudest resort. You’ve got easy access to 8 kilometres of beach, plus Pacha-level nightlife that takes no prisoners...
Specially made resort
Back in the Sixties, there was an empty strip of coast going spare on Gran Canaria’s southern tip. So Playa del Ingles jumped in and grabbed it. They shipped in golden sand from the Sahara, rustled up some shiny, new shopping centres, threw in a stash of bars, restaurants and clubs – and got themselves the biggest, boldest resort on the island.
When it comes to the beach, Playa del Ingles has pulled out all the stops. You’ve got nearly 3 kilometres worth – plus another 5 when you take in the turf shared with Maspalomas and San Agustin. Beach bars are on hand near the sunloungers, or you can wander off into the dunes. And the watersports centre and big waves keep the jet-skiers and windsurfers on the move.
Big nights out
As for the nightlife, Playa del Ingles has really ramped things up. It’s got Cream and Pacha on its patch for a start. Then there are the shopping centres – these are rammed with bars, clubs and discos. And it’s a pretty much anything-goes kind of place, so expect everything from live music to drag acts.
Easy day trips
Playa del Ingles has also made sure it’s within easy reach of some of the island’s best attractions. Twenty minutes gets you to Sioux City, where you’ve got tomahawk-throwing, daredevil stunts and lasso displays to indulge your inner Calamity Jane. And less than 30 minutes takes you to Aboriginal World in Fataga – it’s filled with life-size models of the native Guanche tribe.
