An overall good holiday...
We have just got back from an enjoyable stay at El Duque Aparthotel and was better than our expectations. On arrival, we had to walk down the complex of the hotel (as we were dropped off at the rear) towards reception which made you pass the main pool. This did boost you opinion of the hotel however the frontage (or lack of) was a shame. It was entered through a always-empty shopping centre. After requesting a high-level room prior to our stay we were given exactly that! We stayed in F block which gave us a small view of the sea and overlooked the pool area. It was quiet as the entertainment finished at sometimes 10pm, so a hotel where you were in bed by that time! The greeting on reception as we arrived was not the kindest we have experienced but was quick and efficent with our room ready. The room was quite dated and the furniture was far from new but was satisfactory for what you would want. It was clean and provided all the items a hotel room should offer. Apart from lots of tiny ants/midges around the room, it was fine. On one occasion, the maintanence man came to fix our safe with a faulty connection. After quite a challenging fixture and ten minutes later, he had sorted it and seemed friendly. The main pool area was busy and was more of a child-friendly area including the main bar but there was a smaller pool on the other side of reception which was more suited to us. It seemed to have a more relaxed atmosphere and included some great 4-poster sun-loungers which were popular. Plus, you could nearly always get a sunbed - a first for most hotel we have stayed in! The little bar at that smaller pool was opened for a duration in the afternoon but only in peak season which was our second week's stay. It never seemed to be busy at all and was very quiet in the evenings. The only bad thing about this was the somewhat lengthy walk to the other bar when the small one not open. The mealtimes offered a good variety of foods for an all-inclusive hotel but became a little repetative after two weeks. The chefs were good from what we could see and the waiters/waitresses were all exceptional. They were always rushing around to locate tables for guests arriving and managed to always take your plate away with a smile! Food never often went empty as another tray was bought out. I was also quite amazed at the Wi-Fi at this hotel. For a 3 star, you could manage a signal around the complex. Yes, it was slightly hit-and-miss and not the best connection but was nice to be able to log in wherever you were. To refer back to the begining now, it was entered through a shopping centre which wasn't ideal with two unlocked gates (which were supposed to be locked) to get in. It was a 10 minute walk to the beach but unfortunatly not many places to walk to. After two weeks of walking in the morning and evening, we exhausted most walks and there is only one direction to head in. Apart from the proximaty to the market (Thursdays and Saturdays in the car park opposite), it was not in the best of locations. Just for note: To hire towels it is 15 Euros per towel deposit with unlimited changes. The Safe was 16 Euros a week plus 10 Euros deposit which was returned when handing the key in. I beleive the remote control for the TV was 20 Euros deposit (assume they get stolen!). So overall, a good stay here and outweighed my expectations of a 3 star hotel. The staff were on the whole friendly and efficient which lead to a happy stay here...More
The hotel itself was great really accommodating for our family of four. Even in off season there was a full spread of entertainment offered daily and nightly. Our 3 year old thoroughly enjoyed the kids disco at 8 every night and even now she asks what the leader is up to. The location is a 5 min walk to the beach (down hill) with a pram but coming back is all up hill so bout 10-12mins. The market is on twice a week on the doorstep of the hotel which was handy but just filled with usual items. Weather was a steady 21-22 in Feb which was really good considering at home it was -2... Ten days was a good length of time to be there. Booked it all through Jet2 which covered from moment we left til we got back, flights, transfers and travel insurance all a great price. Only downside was it wasn't a rep run hotel and kids club didn't open until high season. Would definitely go back...More
Very pleasant hotel
The rooms are very clean and very spacious. We arrived at 9:15pm and food finishes at 9:30pm, but they had left a plate of meats, cheese, bread and fruit in our fridge for us. The hotel was quiet but very centrally located to get to either Fanabe beach which has lots of shops and cafes/restaurants or El Dorque beach which has a shopping centre and is very modern with very comfortable sun beds. Both beaches are a 10-15 min walk away. There are bus stops outside the hotel to go the Los Christianos or Playa de las Americas for E1.50. We were always able to get a sunbeds around the pool no matter what time of day we went to the pool. The breakfast has a fantastic choice (something for everyone), lunch and dinner had lots of choice but meat was sometimes a little tough. Over all a fantastic holiday, lovely clean hotel and would definitely go again.More
