This hotel has the wow factor
My wife and I visited from 6 January for a week's stay after hearing so many good things about the Gran Melia. We were not disappointed as from the moment we arrived we both were struck with the wow factor from entering the main reception area and public areas to seeing our room for the first time with the added bonus of a Bali bed in the garden wow and wow again. This is a 5 star hotel in every aspect from the friendly helpful staff, quality and range of food on offer and not least the wonderful clean surrounding during your stay. My only minor gripe is that water should be available outside of meal times as I can accept if you want soft drinks or alcohol then this can be purchased outwith full board package but I think that in this hot climate that water is an essential and as such should be provided free at all times. Anyway this does not detract from my pleasure at staying in the best hotel that I have ever visited and finally I would like to praise the entertainment team of very talented professional singers and dancers which was above and beyond any hotel entertainment that I have ever experienced on holiday with particular praise for their wonderful version of Elbow One day like this. We are already planning to return and hopefully it won't be too long before we can.More
Nice relaxing stay during November. The resort is quite large but was well spaced out. The 'no reserving sun longers before 10am' policy worked mainly although there were a few sun beds with towels on before 10. There were plenty of loungers to choose from so not a problem to us. Shade was plentiful at the time of year we visited with the Sun lower in the sky. Sun set was watched nightly from the Club Ocean bar and set behind the island of La Gomera. Food was good quality and the buffet is one of the best we've known in an all inclusive resort. The a la cartes were also good, although not as good as Meliá Dunas on Sal in Cape Verde. One of my party has specific dietary requirements and all restaurants catered perfectly for her. Just ask the staff. English is obviously spoken very well by most. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable. We had a Bali bed attached to our room terrace. Unfortunately due to the location of our room and the time of year, the sun never shone of the Bali bed or terrace and it therefore didn't get used. My only real complaint was that the bars were often understaffed, especially around the kids pool and also the lobby bar.More
From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed. The staff are friendly and extremely professional as they cater to your every need effortlessly. Nothing is too much trouble. The resort is huge but there is a sense of intimacy. The dining experiences in each of the allocated restaurants was excellent. There was plenty of choice even for the most discerning diner. Plenty of sun loungers around the resort and a very fair and friendly process for claiming them. Gym, sports facilities and spa treatments also available within the resort. Would book this resort again and would definitely recommend this resort to anyone.More
Currently halfway through a new year break at the gran Melia staying as sensatori guests, upon arrival the reception is beautiful, reception staff were friendly and efficient, our room although beautiful was let down by a couple of things, 1st the smell it was almost mold like smelling on arrival and definitely needed a good airing, also the room just seemed abit grubby the lights thick with dust, the toilet had a smell of stale urine in it, which despite the room being cleaned daily has yet to disappear completely, and the pool below that the Bali beds sit in, thick with dead leaves, it all just needed a good clean and bit of tlc and would have been perfect. The food in the restaurants is fantastic, plenty of fresh seafood amongst everything else, all the staff in every bar and restaurant have been delightful, I've witnessed no favouritism towards red level guests, we are staying as all inclusive guests and we always get efficient service and friendly faces. The staff at this hotel are a credit. We have had no problem getting booked into the al a carte restaurants either, and we've just booked them at our leisure when passing the machines. The all inclusive concept is a little confusing at first you have a list of drinks and restaurants available, and then in the restaurants there are always several dishes not available on this board option, this could have been explained better by Thomsons when booking the holiday. However you always have plenty of choice. All in all this is a beautiful tranquil hotel, where it would be impossible not to relax, the people are all lovely and you certainly won't see any rowdy boozy brits here. Other than my minor gripes with the room this hotel would be 100% perfect, I'm looking forward to enjoying my last couple of days in this little peace of heaven. More
We had a very enjoyable stay. We have stayed a few times and would have no hesitation in coming back. We woul probably prefer a better room., by that I mean the rooms are tired. The service at breakfast was also not as good as it has been in the past.More
