The Catalonia Punta del Rey comes up trumps on the pool and food front. Plus, it’s close to a load of black-sand beaches.
Everything’s within easy reach of this place, including bars, restaurants and beaches. You’ll hit the first black-sand cove in a few minutes’ walk. And you can bus it to the capital, Santa Cruz, in 20 minutes.
It’s the massive pool area that steals the show here. It comes with a split-level pool, a huge sun terrace and a snack bar. Meanwhile, grown-ups get their own deck, which is stocked with whirlpools.

Decided to get this break as a Xmas present for my partner, we had visited before as a last minute substitute for Egypt was banned and found it quiet and peaceful. On this visit the receptionist was aware this was a return to the hotel and was very professional and helpful giving us a 4th floor room overlooking the pool, we had on earlier visit been booked on opposite side above the waste bin area. Beds were adequate but knowing from earlier visit a quick call to reception and a bed topper was installed making it so much softer and luxurious. I don't see the reason for the 2 tier drinks packages as the local beers and spirits are very good and I only saw 1 couple with the premium armbands. Food is excellent always a wide variety and something for everyone, wine, beer , cava and soft drinks all self service and of a good quality. Toast in the mornings must be planned and put in before you go collecting food as it takes 10 mins to brown and quite a queue at the 3 toasters. Desserts are true Canadian as in the form of flavoured sponges and blamange but plenty of it . The availability of food is outstanding . Breakfast 7am til 10, lunch is 1pm til 3.30 and dinner is 6pm til 9.30 with the addition that the buffet poolside is open 10.30am til 6pm so food always available. Downsides are. 1 it's in a quiet area so nothing much going on outside without the need to travel although buses and taxis very reasonable and very close to the capital Santa Cruz. ( works well for a relaxing holiday away from it all ). 2, the chairs in the hotel of 2 types the straight backed wooden dining chair (looks like a toilet seat) and the wicker variety of which the need to steal cushions for comfort is vital, also the arms of the chairs left bruising to my forearms for over a week later some kind of covering essential, ( I used a towel it worked wonders ). 3, lastly and more important the walls of the rooms are very thin and privacy is a minimum, TVs too loud , music, loud voices and more importantly arguments are shared with everyone within earshot. Also any adult interaction between couples will be followed by knowing smiles and winks from the neighbours as they are all well aware of the noises emanating from your room. All this aside my partner and I really enjoyed this break and would come back time after time if only for the excellent food very clean rooms and polite service. More
Well Run Quiet Hotel
We stayed here for a week in January 2017 all inclusive in a superior room (premier rooms are the top quality). Although a little tired in places our room was very clean and serviced everyday with a great bathroom and a small balcony which had a great sea view and over looked the pool area. Our room standard did not have tea/coffee making facilities but did have a large flat screen TV. The bed was very comfortable and we slept easily every night. Most amenities (and all inclusive drinks) finish at 11 pm and there is little to do after this time most nights but this suited us entirely (we're not party animals). Pool and sunlounger areas are reasonably well served and clean but can get very busy even off peek. They have a towel on lounger policy but this wasnt enforced when we were there. All inclusive drinks are plentiful with snacks easily available around the pool area but we tended to dine in the buffet style dining room where there was always a good selection to eat and drink even for the fussiest of eaters. There was always something for me to eat and I'm quite finicky. For the more adventurous there was always some local dishes and various themes throughout the week. We're simple people with simple tastes - if you want fine dining and party nightlife this isn't for you. It isn't quite Butlins abroad but they did have bingo and various games going on that you could engage with - no pressure though if its not your thing. Overall for the price we paid and the type of holiday we wanted it was just right.More
We have recently come back and the overall holiday was amazing, i would highly reccomend this hotel, we will be returning next january, food was the best iv ever tasted in all the hotels iv stayed in, the whole hotel was spotlessly clean, location suited us, but if your after the hustle and bustle that is a bus ride away.More
just returned from our second stay at catalonia punta del ray Tenerife, as before we had an amazing two weeks the staff across the whole range were fantastic really helpful and very friendly. The choice of food over the two weeks was really good a choice of indian, chinese and european on differant evenings. The accomodation was clean and fresh bed linen and towels changed frequently. The anamacion team were very hard working and kept children and adults occupied all the time if you wanted to,my special thanks to Claudia in the show bar for looking after me. Would not hesitate to reccomend this hotel to anyone.More

The hotel is only 35 mins transfer from the airport . On arrival check in was fast and easy . Room 919 was spacious with a side sea view and also a view of the building across the road . Food was reasonable and always something to eat unless you are a vey FUSSY eater . Drinks where good especially the cava and the beer . Pool area was very crowded and was a game of chase the sun , best sitting at the bar area it catches the sun from about 9.30. Adults only terrace (solarium) behind the tennis courts has beautiful views comfy loungers and beer on tap as well as soft drinks and water . All self service . Only downside is that there is no toilet at the adults only . The area outside the hotel is quiet with several pubs cafe etc . Would I return .... Definitely . Big thanks to all the staff very friendlyMore
