The Catalonia Punta del Rey comes up trumps on the pool and food front. Plus, it’s close to a load of black-sand beaches.
Everything’s within easy reach of this place, including bars, restaurants and beaches. You’ll hit the first black-sand cove in a few minutes’ walk. And you can bus it to the capital, Santa Cruz, in 20 minutes.
It’s the massive pool area that steals the show here. It comes with a split-level pool, a huge sun terrace and a snack bar. Meanwhile, grown-ups get their own deck, which is stocked with whirlpools.

50th Birthday Treat
Stayed for 4 nights at Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Party of 5 with another 2 arriving the day after. It was booked as a surprise for my Fiancée who was 50. Arrived at about 5pm on good Friday and wa quickly booked in, very friendly reception staff who were very good to change one of our rooms so we could all be close together. All had rooms on 2nd floor. Rooms very basic with decent TV but no tea/coffee facilities but decent size with good bathroom. Not a good view overlooking kids play area and bins!!! Bins and glass bottle banks are collected/emptied very early I.e 7:30am so beware as they are very noisy. Safe in wardrobe costs 2 euros per day with 10 Euro deposit. Hotel has 2 main bars serving most drinks with complimentary nuts crisps etc and you can order as many drinks as you require. We had blue wristbands which give you all non branded drinks you can upgrade to black for 10 euros per person per day but everybody in room has to upgrade. Inside bar can get busy so we used outside one by pool. Restaurant downstairs where food was excellent and plenty of choice. Snacks also available during afternoon at snack bar by pool. Entertainment was ok but very cheesy and not to our taste really but there was a good atmosphere in main lounge. Booked a day at Siam Waterpark which was fantastic and well worth the 47 euros with transfers , I would highly recommend. Now for the negatives and there are a few: firstly, the sunbed situation is truly ridiculous!! You have to queue from 7:30am to have any chance of getting a bed and they do not open the doors till 8:15am. Then it is a free for all!!!! I have never seen anything like it and I have been on package holidays for over 40 years. The pool area simply is not big enough for the size of the hotel!! Which brings me to my next negative, they advertise another pool and subbed area together with mini golf over the road???? Well where do I start!!! The area is derelict, check my pics it could be fabulous but it is shocking and dangerous!! What a waste of such a potential area that could solve the crowded pool area. Mini golf is also overgrown and not in use. Check out the hotel model in reception it's how the hotel should or did look!!!! So to sum up it is a cheap but decent hotel with superb food. Rooms basic but clean. Nice pool but nowhere near big enough. Would recommend for short break as it is what it is- cheap and cheerful!!!!More
Third visit to THE PUNTA
Just returned from our third visit and already looking forward to our next. Forget any negative reviews this place is the cats pyjamas. There is a great selection of food and drinks. An abundance of fruits, cheese,s and deserts. The only thing that may put you off is the price, (ridiculously cheap) Staff are all pleasant, rooms spacious and clean.Best advert for this hotel must be the high volume of repeat visitors,I have never met as many people, who the same as myself return again and again. Best advice or tip I can give GO TO THE PUNTA DEL REY and give yourself a treat.More

Very good holiday
I love this hotel and its location, we spend days at the beach a 15 min walk away. The hotel is always clean and staff work hard. The food is ok but could be better. The donuts are fantastic and the choc fountain is brill. I would recommend the upgraded rooms and we will be staying again next year More
Busy, efficient and clean hotel
Had standard room which was perfectly adequate with good wifi connection on ninth (top) floor. Although hotel full did not wait long for lifts even at meal times. Pool area crowded but still possible to get sun beds without getting up early to join the scrum. Beautiful boardwalk to Candelaria or a 20 minute bus ride to Santa Cruz if you need to escape the hotel. Sometimes food not as hot as I would like but microwave is available and this is my only criticism of an otherwise excellent holiday destination. For the price paid (£409 for 2 of us) it would be difficult to complain.More

Clean hotel, good views and professional staff. Food was good but lacking vegi lunch options. Pool area very small and sun decks crowded for so many rooms, didn't use after first day. Booked as a last minute package deal so happy overall.More
