The Catalonia Punta del Rey comes up trumps on the pool and food front. Plus, it’s close to a load of black-sand beaches.
Everything’s within easy reach of this place, including bars, restaurants and beaches. You’ll hit the first black-sand cove in a few minutes’ walk. And you can bus it to the capital, Santa Cruz, in 20 minutes.
It’s the massive pool area that steals the show here. It comes with a split-level pool, a huge sun terrace and a snack bar. Meanwhile, grown-ups get their own deck, which is stocked with whirlpools.

A very chilled and relaxing holiday
Loved the hotel, food and entertainment. Pool area in need of updating and air con in the common areas of the hotel. Loved our stay and will definitely be returning. Thank you to all staff at the hotel.More
For what you pay, its a great hotel!
We arrived just after midday and was told that our room wasn't going to be ready until around 2pm, wasn't a problem. We got given our wrist bands, were able to leave our cases and go for food and drinks. The rooms were very clean, our bedding was changed and made and we had fresh towels daily. The hotel as a whole was very clean! HOWEVER if you go down in the morning, outside the hotel and sometimes in the corridors you will see glasses, plastic cups etc due to the previous night and they left the cleaning until the morning. Not a big problem as by 9/10am It us usually all clean. FOOD Food was good, I'm not much of a fussy eater. There was always plenty to choose from. Breakfast the same most days but your standard hot and cold selection. Lunch was a good variety and then dinner was a different theme everyday. There is always salads, different pastas with a choice of 3 sauces and then freshly cooked meat and fish. With a good selection of desserts. They also have the all inclusive room by the pool where you can get burgers, hotdogs, pizza, chips, salad toasties etc which is restocked throughout the day. DRINKS All inclusive drinks were ok. Cocktails come from the machine so not much of a choice, then you have a selection of spirits and then Amstel on tap ( TOP TIP pack some pint plastic cups in your suitcase as half pints don't last 2 seconds on a sunny day) POOL AREA The pools is a nice side however going in peak summer holidays time it was very busy. The reps are always getting people involved in either water sports/exercises bingo, darts and other games throughout the day. We managed to get sunbeds most days. Most people will come out at 6.30am! and wait for the doors to open around 8-8:30am (once they've tidied up from the previous night) just to put their towels on the sunbed. We had sunbeds next to us with towels on from 9am and the person arrived at 1pm to sunbath. Unfair for people who didn't have them. The staff do have notices that they put down then after 30 minutes take away the towels however this was very rarley done in the morning. The surrounding beaches aren't amazing and there ins't a whole lot to do in walking distance so for beaches you'll need the bus or a car. STAFF/ENTERTAINMENT All the staff were really friendly, chatty and helpful. The Thomson rep Rebecca told us about the area and what excursions we could go on. Really friendly and approachable with any question. The evening entertainment was okay, some nights were really good, some weren't that great. There's a good variety. I really enjoyed this hotel. If there was more to do around the area I would definitely return, however if you're wanting a week away and looking to stay by the pool this is a good hotel for that, or you're wanting a very quiet area then looking to go on excursions.More
Great family All inclusive
This was our first trip as a family of 3 (1 adult and 2 children)....overall the hotel is excellent for the price we paid. Staff are all friendly and helpful without exception. As a dad of 1 fussy eater, both children had plenty of choice at all meal times including the pool side snack bar (10am - 6pm for food) Although we didn't really go to any of the entertainment it sounded like everyone who did was enjoying it. Our room was more that adequate and was cleaned everyday If your looking for somewhere with things to do in the surrounding area outside of the hotel, this isn't the place for you. It's relatively remote in terms of facilities and activities outside of the hotel. So any trips are a coach ride away We went to Siam Park and The Medieval Night, which were both a 40 min coach ride away. However worth it and are highly recommended Overall I would recommend this hotel to any family looking for a relatively cheap all inclusive break More
Punta Del Rey
I recently stayed at Hotel with my 2 daughters. The hotel met all my expectations despite some historical bad reviews. The major gripe was the Pool. It is far too small fro the Hotel. One restaurant has a capacity of 650 people and the Pool would be lucky to accommodate 200 people. The queuing began at least 7am and even then still 10 people ahead . The doors to pool didn't open till 8.15am. This was ridiculous and many people I spoke to had never see this before and not impressed. The owners should add another Pool and also a Kids Pool to ease the traffic. This reason why I didn't give 5 rating. The other minor gripe was All Inclusive stopped at 11pm which again is ridiculous to expect people to pay fro drinks even soft drinks during the night , I would highly recommend staying in this hotel food was excellent and staff very courteous . set your alarms early is the message if you want a seat by the Pool.More
Travelled here with Thomson as a family 2 adults 2 children age 15 and 13 from the 30th of July to the 6th august after cancelling from another hotel south of the island because of building work. Lovely hotel nice and clean usual problem with people queuing for sunbeds I personally never bothered as I always found some. Food was ok had better but also had worse The resort is very quiet mainly residential so if your looking for nightlife etc this isn't the place for you We upgraded to a premium room well worth it beds very comfortable plus sea view a fridge bottled water every day and fruit on arrival and free safe All in all a very nice clean friendly hotel ideal for a relaxing break Unfortunately wouldn't return as resort to quiet for us More
