A trio of lake-like pools hog the limelight at this apartment complex. The beach is just a short walk away, too.
Life at the Barcelo Varadero revolves around its pools. There are 3 to choose from, all of them huge. There are 2 bars, too, and a buffet restaurant where you can try Canarian dishes as well as international fare.
The apartments are airy and bright, with glass patio doors leading out into the gardens. A 10-minute walk gets you to Playa de la Arena’s black-sand beach.

New year break
We arrived at the Barcelo Varadero Now changed to Allegro Isora on the 30th of Dec. Positives, All of the Staff working at this hotel from the reception to the cleaners work very hard. The animation are very good always smiling and stopping to chat plus entertaining day and night. We were checked in very quickly, our room was 4th floor D block just what we asked for it we had a bottle of Cava and shortbread in the room the room was clean and comfortable thanks to the great cleaners.TV had BBC and ITV programes We could always get a sunbed round the pool there was one pool that was heated used mainly by the children. the surrounding area was ok but hilly as I have some mobility issues we went for a walk taking advantage of all the benches along the way.The snack bar was ok but needs a new heat counter to keep the food hot. Loved the fresh made paella and pizzas. Like the idea of help yourself drinks in the snack bar and entertainment room it does work just had to ask for glasses in the entertainment bar as appose to cardboard beakers on the bar. The waiters in the dinning room work very hard clearing tables and resetting very quickly. A special mention for PIERA she is a fantastic guest relation person always smiling and communicating with guests she was a pleasure to know. Unfortunately there were negatives. The lifts definitely need a make over in D block, the pools need an overall as does the area around the pools, some of the sun beds have seen better days. The dinning area the staff do work hard but the chairs were very badly stained and some were broken. The food was not of a good standard looked alright when brought out but because hot food was placed on a cold serving area with lights above the food soon went cold and looked unapitizing, the station where food was cooked was ok but one day I asked the male chef for a him to cut me a piece of the pork he pointed to a dish and said have that which was 2 pieces of dried cold pork. I told him it was cold and dried up he just said micro wave it, I didn't I just had soup instead he was the only one of the staff that i felt was rude. Breakfast was better but one person cooking fried eggs, pancakes and scrambled eggs led to a line waiting to be served. young children were trying to use the toaster some barley able to reach the toaster, plus carrying hot food and drinks Parents not around. The entertainment area was ok but for children running a mock banging into adults carrying drinks even when entertainment was performing some even getting on stage whilst performers were performing. They were also helping themselves at the hot coffee machines. I'm not anti child I have worked all my life with children and know the hotel is a family hotel but consideration also has to be given to adults who are without children. Lastly NEW YEARS EVE enjoyed the entertainment down by the pool but in the entertainment bar the act was not suitable for NEW Year they did not engage with the Ordiance guest were as early as 11 oclock going to bed as there was no atmosphere which was a pity. Would I recommend this hotel Yest when the refurbishment takes place.More
GREAT WINTER CHILL OUT!!
Spent a week over New Year at this Hotel, real relaxing and chilled out Holiday! We were in Block F, the room was really spacious and spotless, credit to the chambermaid who was there religiously everyday, clean towels and tidyed up each visit. The room was very modern and the bed as one of the biggest beds we have ever slept in, our dog would have loved it sleeping in there with us. We cruise and we thought they had big beds, but this one beats the lot!! We had the sunshine on our Balcony all day more or less which is always a bonus, we had top floor which I did request beforehand by email and they did listen to me which is very nice. The pools were very cold and did not even make an effort to get in, just watched on as people had a dip and then complained how cold it was!! Mind you it is January!! We spent most of the day round the pool near block F, but found the Lifeguard, the older guy with the sunglasses quite annoying. There were different rules each day as to where you could put your sunbed, he would come and wake you up and tell you to move it, the next day somebody would be in the same postition but he would not bother to move them, very annoying, it was as if he was playing a game with the guests, who he could annoy the most!! The snack bar needs a bit of work doing to it, a bit of updating, looked a bit tired and the food was very repetative, but did not really need snacks as the Restaurant meals were plentiful, always had plenty of choice for each meal, the sweets were so nice and always well stocked up, we really enjoyed the food, did get a bid congested now and again in the Restaurant but it was a full Hotel. The main resort is only a short walk away, not much to do otherwise but we were only there for a chill out and we did get it!! The entertainment was quite a mixture, but the children were kept entertained, the bar drinks were fab, so nice just to get up and help yourself whenever!! Very impressed with the tv in the Hotel, BBC1 ITV1 and other English channels, not bad, we even went back to the room to watch the football on the Friday night, West Ham v Man City, not disappointed, we are City fans and were satisfied with the 5 - 0 victory, went back down to the bar and had a few more drinks on our team!! All in all a very enjoyable and relaxing week, would definately recommend this Hotel, and would visit again in the future. Thanks to all the staff for an enjoyable experience!!More
Great winter break
Fab location, the area is hilly but local bus can take you couple of stops up or down the hill. Hotel was great for our needs stayed all inclusive premium . Was value for money however need more staff on the bar in an evening as if there away washing glasses or collecting them in can take a while as que can build up. Beds in the room are comfy however move around and no option for a double bed. Food was of a good varied quality however they could not keep up with the volume of guests a bigger hot plate area would help. Pools were cold however one nearest reception area was warmest and did seem to have hot water being pumped into it at certain times of the day. Selection of good restaurants near bye and a few bars. This is not a resort like las americas, or adeje it is more quieter no night clubs or euro pint bars!! I would like to say our daughter Daisy loved barcy club and mini disco and a Maria and Alexandre were amazing with the kids they worked so hard to entertain them. Evening entertainment while we were staying was a mixture of the entertainment team and external which they were trialing for future some were to are liking some very dated games or Mr and Mrs, and slap stick shows. We have seen this many times however other guests did love these so each to there own and the entertainment staff put there heart into it. Alexandre sang a bruno mars song and she was brilliant had everyone in a good mood. More
My partner and I got married on the 30th of December, booked our honeymoon on Jan 1st and departed two days later. Given the lateness of booking we didnt have a great deal to choose from but found this hotel the best of what was available. We werent disappointed! It is a large hotel with a varied mix of nationalities - English, German, Russian, Swedish, French, Polish, etc. It is located on the edge of the resort but its a pleasant, if hilly, walk to and from the main area. The room appeared to be newly refurbished, extremely clean, spacious and more than adequate. It has self catering facilities (even though we were all inclusive) which was great. The balcony overlooked the main pool area. Food was OK. We only did breakfast twice. The snack bar was a bit repetitive though there was plenty of choice. Burgers, hot dogs, toasties, salad, chips, etc. The main restaurant did have a bit more variety with the theme changing every night and whilst the restaurant got busy the staff worked tirelessly to ensure plenty was available, tables cleaned, etc. The drinks part of the all inclusive was excellent with beer, soft drinks, cocktails, spirits all unlimited on a help your self basis and unlike other hotels, you were allowed pint glasses. The beds were two large single beds pushed together but more than comfortable. We got out an about more than we probably should have having been all inclusive. This was not due to the hotel but mainly because we like to explore the local area (and bars). As mentioned before, its a hilly coastline but its a great walk up the coast to Los Gigantes where there are plenty of bars on the way and when you get there. I would highly recommend this hotel either for a family holiday, as a couple or as a base for exploring the local area. One final thing - I had emailed the hotel prior to our arrival asking them for a sea-view room given it was our honeymoon. Not only did we get one, we also were left a bottle of champagne and chocolate cake. A great gesture. Thank you.More
Had a cozy stay in Jan 2017
A well situated hotel near the Arena beach. Hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Most of the areas of the hotel live up the the description on the official site and sites of some of the booking agencies . However some areas are far off. The area deviating the most from pictures on official site is the restaurant . While serving fair and varied food , the restaurant area is warn down to the point that would only be acceptable in 1 star hotel ( see attached photos ) . The staff does it's best to keep area clean and attractive , but infrastructure is worn down to almost extreme. The sea view rooms are also a bit of a cheat . You actually pay a tad extra for a smaller room with limited sea view and a noisy road under a balcony. That could be one off but we had a leaky refrigerator and boiler , so there was constantly a a puddle of water in our kitchen space . Not that we used them , but aircons are from 80' s and make lots of noise . All in all a nice place with good atmosphere and garden pools , but some adjustments need to be done to restaurant to leave up to those 4 stars it claims to be . More
