All inclusive... with a catch!
We booked through On The Beach and arrived on 26th July for 10 days, all inclusive. I travelled with my husband and our two children (aged 6 and 5). I will start with the positives - only because there is only one! The location is perfect, couldn't ask for better. Now for the negatives, where do I start?? On arrival we were greeted and given our room cards which also count towards your stay instead of a wristband. Most ridiculous system we've ever encountered. We were put into room 456 and was woken up before 8am by building works so requested straight away to be moved, which we were, to room 421 which had a lovely sea view. The food was not good, I don't know how anyone can say the food was good! Cold, bland, not labelled up, one evening it was chicken fajitas and it was very clear the chicken was off! The smell was grotesque! We actually hated the thought of going to the restaurant for food after day one. The restaurant staff are very rude, they snatch your card from you, if they decide to serve you that is! English families will never be a priority here so be warned. On one occasion my husband was spoken to very rudely by a male staff member because our card was split, he very abruptly said "this is not good, get it changed" whilst shaking his head and the card at us. Really not necessary to be rude about it. If you want to clear your own tables for meals, set your own tables for meals then that's what you'll expect here. Countless times we walked in to find messy tables, the ones that were set were only for 2 people. The pool area was grubby, the tiles broken, the pool itself is filthy with black bits floating around. My husband went under water and said the filter was diabolical. On one occasion a child was sick in the pool, the lifeguard was informed only to reply "no worries, not a problem, only faeces a problem".... disgusting! The mini club doesn't start until 9:30pm which is quite late and consisted of three or four Spanish songs. The mini club didn't really exist during our stay, the children's room remained in darkness the entire 10 days we were there. They have works going on which became annoying, mainly because they have one bar which consisted of one staff member and lengthy queues. If you have 4 people on our booking and want 5 drinks prepared to be questioned! I've paid for it so why question me over it! The hotel is catered for Spanish and German holiday makers. I desperately tried to change hotels before our stay but was unsuccessful. I would never stay here again. Tenerife I would return to, but if your thinking of coming here please don't. I am not a fussy person, I don't have high expectations but this place was not good by any stretch of the imagination. I could go on, but please save your money and find a better hotel.More
Never a 4* lucky to get 3*
Me and my wife booked in for 1 week 17th July! Booked this hotel half board , mainly for location as we needed to be near other family members staying nearby. The good bits about the troya - our room 724 with sea view nice and tidy, check in staff pleasant ! The decour in the restaurant nice and bright , good free wi-fi . Now the other bits, the air con in our room was poor , it didn't make much difference, they supplied 2 tea bags on the first day but after that there is a charge of 1 euro for 2 tea bags " unbelievable" so take your own or get them from restaurant!! I read of previous reviews giving bad reviews of the food , they were spot on! The breakfast was very basic and yes the food was just about warm with ice cold fried eggs, and not a lot of choice! One morning the only fresh fruit was tinned oranges/pears , there is no one cooking omelettes etc , the same in the evening not a lot of choice and again only warm food and no one cooking fresh, ( it's the first time I've ever experienced this in a 4* hotel) we eat out the rest of the week as we met up with other family members staying nearby which was part of our intention and we know of a lot of good places to eat and good value! The pool area was one of the grubbiest pools I've ever come across , each morning we came down around 9.30 there was rubbish from the previous night everywhere and drink stains all over the place! We took our own wipes to clean the small tables the sun beds all need a good steam clean!! We noticed just one elderly guy with one mop bucket doing the cleaning !! The pool bar was closed for refurbishment so for drinks and snacks you had to go into the hotel lounge bar! Always a queue of anything between 5and 12 people !!! One day I queued for 15 mins at the bar , then my card didn't work so I had to go and change it at reception , another 15 min wait then another 15 min wait at the bar all for 2 drinks!! ( don't leave your room card next to your mobile phone as it stops the card from working) good job I didn't spill them !! My wife thought I'd left her!! I fancied a game of mini golf but the course was totally unplayable the cloth was full of rips and holes , a total disgrace! And the ping pong table had 3good legs and one short one ,it was a joke! I booked this holiday through sky tours which is part of the Thomson group and after been on around 25 holidays with them and never had a bad one till now ! I understand refurbishments are ongoing but that is no excuse for poor quality and cold food , having said all that , I still had a great holiday as I like tenerife and met up with other family members and know where to go for entertainment as the stuff in the hotel was mainly for kids. Not the greatest
Recently just returned from a 10 day stay at hotel troya with my boyfriend. Stayed in room 549 very lovely with comfy beds and a good size bathroom the room also had a lovely pool/sea view. Overall the room was great! However the food at this hotel is not the greatest. (Breakfast the best). Food is labelled in the wrong places (not good if have an allergy) and there isn't much of a variety. Very repetitive. Some of the staff in the restaurant are very rude and tend to just snatch your card off you when you are ordering a drink. Myself and my boyfriend waited 15 minutes on your first night for a waiter to come over and order us a drink. Not good. The bar staff are much nicer than the staff in the restaurant, however some still do snatch the card off you and it is very obvious that some of the staff in this hotel prioritise the Spanish/German guests. Disgusting if I say so myself. Durning the day the entertainment team do a variety of activities such as water polo, aqua gym etc. However, most of the time they just speak in Spanish to let you know what activities they are doing. They 100% encourage the Spanish children to get involved even though there is lots of English guests/families staying in this hotel. However on a evening Stephanie done a good job of the mini disco for the children. Check-in was good when we arrived and we were given a glass of orange juice which I thought was lovely. However nothing was explained about the hotel/restaurant. We had a good day out at Siam park which is very good and only costs €5 in a taxi. If you have booked through Thomson there is a Thomson rep at the hotel at certain times in the day. His name is Matt and he is very helpful and will always sort out problems if you have any. I would 100% say this hotel is recommend for the Spanish/families and not couples. If you want decent meals when you are away do not come to this hotel. Would I come back to this hotel? Certainly not. More

Not the best for a 4*
We stayed here from 1st July -15th July for two weeks a family of three .half board We have stayed at many four star hotels now and this one was by far the worst ! We didn't get told much when greeted at reception and the lady was trying to tell us we couldn't get a safe that night after her colleague had told us to come back in ten minutes as they were trying to get everyone. Checked in ,when we went back the lady was refusing to give us a safe until the next day as she had just counted the money .. after sticking to our guns she eventually gave us a safe . When we read reviews before going they were all sounding ok minus the food which we thought was maybe just fussy people ,oh how we were wrong !!! Breakfast ok you can find something can't really go wrong with a slice of toast or cereal but evening meal 🤢🤢.not a big selection at all, catered a lot for Spanish etc and the food they did have was over cooked one night was fajitas yum I thought ,couldn't even get my teeth through the chicken so dry and over cooked ,everytime we went for pizza it said pizza and salami and it was always tuna ! Not good if you have a good allergy ,waiters quite rude don't speak much english and just demand your room key ! We ate out most nights food was that bad The building works ! Isn't the best in our stay they were hammering and drilling very early in morning waking you up ,yes maybe after a million complaints they have started a little it later but not the best especially if your in the building trade and try to come away for a relaxing four star holiday !! Look out at the kiddies pool this is where they were wheeling all there stuff in and out near knocked my sleeping toddler out his buggy trying to get past and ended up breaking part of the kiddies pool ! We were on level six which also seem to be having major works done cement left lying in corridors ,trip hazzards etc The card system is a joke if your half board you still need to wait in the same que as people who are all inclusive when your paying for a drink ! Which they add to your card and you can pay it off at reception when you want ,which they double charged us for ! So beware ...we stopped buying drinks etc after few days as one it was a long wait at the bar only ever two people max on and drinks really expensive go out the hotel and to the right and there's a shop much cheaper for drinks etc . Entertainment ok The animation team - don't really interact if your British .. everytime it was always Spanish kids asked to play .. the playroom magic park looks fab ,but not much in it and the safe don't really interact much with the kids ,we took our kid along which I would never leave at theses things anyway but there wasn't much going on it. Can be so much more fun and would be good if it was open in day time when it gets to hot for little ones and not at night when they are nearly falling asleep . Rooms good ...air con good .. cleaning service of rooms good ...pool area over all good couldn't get my son out the pool .... great location . Would I return ?... NO was I happy with my holiday stay overall ...NO More
