Great location for young couple but rude staff and hard work for English
Just got back from staying for 7 nights all inclusive traveling as a young couple. Hotel itself is okay. No problems with the room. Decent size with great view looking over beach and neighbours pool. Balcony size fine, shower fine and generally was happy with it all. Bit of noise from outside mainly Thursday - Sunday when stag and hens come as it is close to the strip... 2 min walk to the first bar! For us that was a good thing and the bit of noise didn't bother us. Our experience with the staff wasn't good, the best you got was a neutral experience. Majority weren't rude but they weren't polite or helpful either. Some was very rude though. Gob smacked by some of the attitudes. There was a language barrier most the time. A lot of staff didn't understand English and if they did It was basic so if you had a question or an issue you weren't going to get very far. Only exception I can think of is a chap on reception. This I found strange due to the amount of English guests. Also felt like there was constant priority over Spanish guests, found myself being overlooked at the bar to serve Spanish before me which was annoying and obvious! Was at the pool for 2 days out of 7. Request for music at pool side was rejected. Apparently it's usually played from what I've read on here but not what I found. The cleaners I've got to say we're excellent. They done a great job was polite and friendly and was happy to work around you without any moan or groan. The all inclusive card system was a pain. The normal wrist band a lot easier but was it was. The food was decent but sometime repetitive. For example the soup of the day didn't change for the week... vegetable cream. All in all we wasn't in the hotel that much, it was clean, had a great location and got it as a holiday deal package from Thompson which was a decent price. I'll get over some of the rude staff and still sleep at night but probably wouldn't stay here again if I visited Tenerife again. It's not a 4 star. More
Really enjoyed it :)
From the time we spent in the hotel I would rate it a good 7/10, the only downfall was the entertainment was a little poor, and the food wasn't appetising, for me not all bad but my extremely fussy boyfriend didn't get our money's worth out of the all inclusive, luckily for us there are take outs, McDonald's and Subway 2 minutes up the road and English breakfasts all over the place which is very cheap! About €3.50 for a full English. The pool is clean and the rooms are well air conditioned. Staff have been friendly and treated us to a bottle of champagne and biscuits for my partners 30th birthday :) Siam park is a 10-15 minute walk up the road and €5 in a taxi. 10/10 what a fantastic day but I would suggest going on a clear blue sky as the breeze can ruin the experience on a wet body haha. Also twin tickets available for loro parque, again 10/10 but a 2 hour coach ride. So worth it seeing the scenery too. Small beach across the road from the hotel, lovely but dark sand and the sunset is outstanding around 9:30pm. If you want a beach which is easy on the eyes, 20 minute walk down the left side of the hotel on the sea front, keep walking you can't miss it, absolutely stunning. The food in restaurants such as Ted's grill, and (excuse the spelling) cappiciano is so nice! Average prices but a 10% discount at Ted's grill on your second visit. As for the young adults, Veronica strip is right across road, we as a couple didn't visit but I had a friends holiday in September 16 and really enjoyed it, such a good night out. Tenerife as a whole, 9/10. So much wasted land let's it down but so minor when you're here and parts of the scenery make up for it 😍More
Hotel Troya - 5th June
Hotel - overall impression of the hotel is very nice. The only improvement I could suggest is a slight modernisation (which can be said about a lot of hotels). Other than that, the hotel was nice. Common Areas (poolside and lounges) - poolside was nice and spacious with plenty of sun loungers and parasols for everyone. There is also a sun terrace (not sure if you need to pay extra as this was always almost empty). The lounges were spacious and bright. Main entertainment lounge with plenty of tables and seats for everyone and good views of the stage. The other lounge section was a mix of proper tables and relaxing comfortable chairs with low "coffee table" style tables. These are very comfortable. There is also an area beside this lounge which has a TV, it was showing some of the World Cup Qualifiers during our stay. Staff - the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful when required. Always happy to help and never moaned about anything that we requested. Always very polite!! Restaurant - this area is very nice, however, the lack of selection during meal times was a let down. Also the food when displayed is not kept in a place where it can be heated so cools very quickly. Location/Surroundings - the location of the hotel is spot on. Out the hotel gates, cross the road and you are right on the beach. To the left is an assortment of beach bars and clubs, to the right is an assortment of small shops and bars. Always very lively outside the hotel but never too loud that you can't sleep. Entertainment - this was the overall downside of our holiday. The acts that we seen were rather poor and there isn't much variation across the days.More
Overall ok, hotel is old and need refurbishment ( specially bathrooms ). Girls at the reception are super nice and helpful. We had breakfast and dinner included, although there was plenty of choices food was tasteless.Perfect location.More
Please don't waste your money! Avoid this hotel!!
For starters this hotel is no where near a 4 star hotel. The positives to the hotel are: The lobby is clean and spacious - and it's about the only large and clean area in the hotel! Fernando and Amaral are the only waiting staff with a sense of humour and who acknowledges you. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming also. There is a few restaurants and McDonald's just a stone throw away - you're going to need these!! 😂 And we thankfully only booked a week!! Well that's about it for the positives... The negatives, now this could go on a while but if you don't want your holiday ruined I'd advise you read this! I would say that the hotels main focus is on its Spanish and German guests and you will understand why as I go through the points. The hotel rooms are basic - like a holiday inn. No fridge (25euros to hire for a week), no iron and no kettle!! You have your beds, a wardrobes, the bathroom and some outdated furniture. Beds are as flat as a pancake and the hotel generously supplies one pillow per bed - but you'd probably be more comfortable sleeping on a paving slab!! You also get a TV. However, this isn't any use unless you speak Spanish or German as there are no English channels. The rooms also receive basic room service. Replacement towels, toilet rolls and made up beds. That's it. Floors aren't swept/cleaned - so your get nice dusty, fluffy feet! Toiletries such as shampoo, shower gels aren't replaced either. The restaurant. Where do I start? The first night we got there we had 45 minutes until the restaurant shut. The head waiter that night was a rude, arrogant man who snapped about the fact that I couldn't order everyone's drinks as I didn't know what they wanted. He also said to me "that if I didn't get food soon, it'd be cleared away!". Such a friendly man - not. Then the food. The entire week it was mainly cold food, served repeatedly. None of the selections were diverse for the English and it all seemed to follow a Spanish and German cuisine every night. So this meant we had little choice or variety! There is also no kids section! Hence why the outside restaurants would be the best places for you to go! The pool is small but there are plenty of sun loungers. The tiles around the pool get ridiculously hot and you can't walk across them without something on your feet! The pool needs renewing as it is covered in black mould which look awful! There also needs to be an outside pool bar as this hotel has ONE bar for the whole hotel and it's inside. So if you're by the pool you have to dry off before you can get drinks. There is lack of cleaning around the pool area during the day. The bins were always overflowing and they are so full, that one evening the cleaner was emptying one of the bins and the bin bag ripped and everything fell on the floor. And even that wasn't cleaned up very well afterwards!!! The bar. Well at this hotel you have a stupid key card to do the all inclusive. This means that when you go to the bar you have to have the card swiped to register what you are having. You also cannot have too many drinks within a certain amount of time because they start complaining and moaning!! Not sure why - when I've paid for an inclusive package and you've already had my money!! They kept on questioning our group about drinks. But on more than one occasion I saw German/Spanish guests going to the bar placing orders, receiving drinks and not even giving the cards over! How's that fair?! They also will not supply bottled water behind the bars or in your rooms. So you would need to go outside and purchase this yourself!! It's the first hotel I've stayed in where bottled water isn't available whenever you need it!? Especially for a "4 star" hotel!! Also, when you've had drinks these pile up on your tables as they rarely come and clear them away, until it gets to a point where you have to do it yourself when you run out of space!! We also timed leaving a plate on a table and seeing how long it would take to be cleared away... 4.5 hours. 😂 The entertainment is like having all the rubbish acts from BGT. You know that ones that make you cringe? Yep that's the entertainment. Across the board it was awful!! The animation team was also invisible to other hotels animations teams that I have experienced. They wouldn't as much as give you a smile so they must be great fun!! I also tried using the spa but due to the massive language barrier that seems to be across the hotel she couldn't understand what I was asking for. I'm not sure how "a facial" is hard to understand if you work in the spa. There is also outside space by the pool which is completely going to waste. It has chairs and a stage but nothing happens out there. If they don't use this space then why not adapt it to something that could be used such as a pool bar? The hotel is also currently having works done by the pool. So it's sounds like a building site - not peaceful and tranquil like you hope on holiday! There's wasn't any notices as to what this was for or what it was going to be so can't advise if it'll be an improvement for the hotel. If you're flying with Thomson, the rep is no help either. He was too busy browsing for his own holiday to book, then worrying about the holiday we were suffering with!! My advice. Book elsewhere. More
