Holidays to Playa Paraiso take you to one of Tenerife’s quieter resorts, a great spot for snorkelling or whale watching. But buzzy Playa de las Americas is just 10 minutes down the road, so you get the best of both worlds...
As resorts go, Playa Paraiso is a bit of a wallflower. Set on Tenerife’s southwest coast, it’s a small, quiet, purpose-built resort where you won’t find much beyond a few restaurants, shops and bars. You can really dip in and out of the action here, though, because just down the road you’ve got party-mad Playa de las Americas and one of the world’s top waterparks, Siam Park.
A good-looking lido
Playa Paraiso doesn’t really do beaches – it’s just got a patch of rock and shingle. The resort more than makes up for that with its lido, though. This saltwater pool looks like a tropical lagoon – it’s even got a waterfall. A restaurant here serves up snacks and drinks, and there are plenty of sunloungers to rent. And if you do want some sand, next-door Costa Adeje deals up golden stuff imported from the Sahara and comes with palm-leaf parasols, quaint changing cabins and waterfront cafés.
Easy day trips
Ten minutes’ drive and you’re in Playa de las Americas. Beach-wise, you’ve got sand and a raft of watersports here. And on the activity front, there’s bungee jumping at Sky Park and white lions to see at Jungle Park. Further afield you’ve got Mount Teide – it measures up as Spain’s highest mountain and the world’s third largest volcano. You can take the cable car up to the top for the views, then take on the walking paths of the national park here.
