Lanzarote, lying just 60 miles away from the coast of Africa, enjoys a climate that's every bit as spectacular as its extraordinary landscape. For most of the year, the sky remains a determined blue, with hardly a cloud to interrupt day after day of endless sunshine, yet the island is awash with colour. Lanzarote has much more to offer than natural beauty, souvenir hunters will love exploring the villages, shops and markets, while sun worshippers who have spent a lazy day on the beach can enjoy the local cuisine at one of the island's many restaurants, before dancing the night away at a disco. Watersport enthusiasts will be in their element with windsurfing in particular a popular sport. Hire a car and take the opportunity to get out and explore villages nestling amongst looming lunar rock formations and waving palm trees, the deserted beaches of the Papagayo area or even visit Lanzarote's live volcano - Fire Mountain at Timanfaya National Park.
