Great family holiday
Having become a fairly recent father, this was our first experience of a holiday village and we thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay here, but not as much as our 15 month old son who I'm sure if he could speak, would be telling us he wanted to stay there. So firstly a few minor negatives: - Pools were freezing for little ones. Yes once you get your shoulders in, its fine but my son did not enjoy getting in the pool that much because they were so cold, even the baby pool. I think they should make the baby pool a little warmer. - Room had everything, all be it a bit dated. Our air con was blowing hot air but was fixed within an hour of us reporting it. Some people moan lack of English channels but you are in a foreign country - TV had BBC and ITV which was enough for us on the nights we had to turn in early due to the little one needing to be put to bed. - No iron in room. We knew this prior to arriving but think for a family hotel, you should have an iron in your room or one available from reception. The positives: - Entertainment was excellent for kids of all ages - so many different things to do. We did not get to see any of the adult entertainment at night but what they did in the day was fun and you did not feel pressurised into joining in some of the activities if you did not want to. Entertainment and crèche staff were excellent and very friendly. - Choice of pools was really good. You had the quiet pool, main pool where most of the activities took place or the other pool with the water slides. Always sun beds available. - Enjoyed dinner and evening meals. I thought there was enough choice for a buffet style menu and there were themes on some nights. The Portuguese and Italian a-le-carte menus were nice and good quality food. - Nice beach 15 minute walk away In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and will be visiting a Holiday Village again in the future.More
Good for Families
Personally really enjoyed this 10 day stay - was in mid may so wasn't too busy went with partner and 2 year old (then 23 month old so nearly 2) and was a lot of things to keep little ones entertained my daughter enjoyed the small play/park area and the swimming pool and also did a painting session with the Thomson reps one afternoon, didn't use any kids/baby clubs as I don't want to leave my child unattended so I can't comment on these. Staff could of been more friendly however were never rude just in general looked unhappy this goes for reception and restaurant staff, with exception of Thierry at the restaurant entrance he was always friendly and talkative. Food was good enjoyed very much cannot fault - except there are lots of people kids AND adults who by pass use of tongs and touch all the food I find this is the reason people comment on tummy bugs - we didn't experience any illness or anything. Had a 1 bed apartment and was absolutely perfect for us so much space which you need with kids and separate bed room to the main area so can put baby to sleep and continue our night watching tv or drinking on the balcony, balcony very good size and view onto the pool and sea was amazing. Room was clean but even up on the 4th floor there were ants in the room? went to entertainment twice in 10 days it wasn't for us didn't enjoy found boring so sorry to the workers who perform just didn't find it of interest. Local area and beach was also lovely - we went on the bus that takes you to the beach and was easy and stress free we ate fish at the seaside restaurant directly on the beach and was royally ripped off 1 whole sea bass to share with chips and a soft drink and a beer 75 euros bill was all in Portuguese and suddenly waiters struggled with english when challenged - beware of this place just walk up the beach 10 mins and you be in the old town - there are some lovely stalls markets and restaurants there enjoyed it a lot went there a few times and ate at a beach view place had cocktails was so lovely can't remember the name, it's high up on the hill and is quite large, I will post some pics. I read lots of bad reviews before I came here and honestly do not know why it's a lovely place. Thomson - faro airport on the way home never ever have I been in such a stressful horrible situation! 5 Thomson planes departing from faro and 2 check in desks and everyone's transfer bus taking them to the airport at the same time?! Meaning our plane to Luton which was the first one to depart was delayed by over an hour because we were all at the backs of queues behind people who's planes weren't departing for another 3 hours stood in long long queues for check in and security and passport control - all the people were complaining that we were pushing in and caused lots of arguments with passengers as they did not care or understand our plane was leaving and that they were calling out last call for Luton, why just dump everyone there at the same time no care or Thomson rep in sight while all this was happening. Needless to say my toddler was screaming and crying for the whole ordeal.. I would highly recommend ditching their transfer bus and getting a cab to airport much earlier than their advertised transfer time. More
We arrived on Sunday 8th September and are still here for another couple of days. We are a family of 6 ranging from 3 to 48 in age. We have a 2 bed apartment with the lounge/diner being used for one member of our party to sleep in. All the beds even the pull out bed in the lounge are really comfy. The 3 year old had to have a travel cot which she didn't mind as the only 'camp' bed they have is in the lounge and was being used. Maids come in everyday and change towels, take rubbish etc. We went all inclusive which was brilliant. There was an excellant choice of food at every meal, some of the food wasn't warm enough but i appreciate when serving such large quantities of food it can be difficult. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The pool area is fantastic, 3 pools with one being shallow enough for the 3 year old to jump in. Sun loungers are a plenty. There is a water slide area and a play park in a different area of the resort. Unfortunately the playpark is unusable during the day due to the equipment getting to hot to touch in the scorching heat of the day. The weather has been amazing, beautiful sunshine everyday. The only thing I would like to see for my next visit would be modernisation of the rooms. Really lovely holiday, will definatly return.More
Great family holiday
I always look forward to the comedy of reading reviews post-holiday of people who clearly went to a completely different hotel. A recent reviewer slightly aghast it wasn't like the 5* hotels he is used to, giving it a terrible review those pointing out it was excellent for young kids - the whole purpose of holiday villages. The rooms are huge and we had an amazing view. They were fantastically clean - always. The pools are great. Our kids are older (9/12) so we spent more time at the main pool but I could see how great the water park was for younger kids. Any talk of a lack of sun beds is nonsense. We never got up early and always got 3 or 4 together when we had breakfast (about 9am). The HV kids club staff were all outstanding. Genuine enthusiasm and love for their jobs despite working 15 hours a day, six days a week. Our 9 year old daughter made the most of all that was on offer and loved everything she did. There were lots of activities for families not part of the kids club so everyone could try paddle boarding, high wire etc. The food was good. Not amazing, but of a very good standard comparable to other resorts and holiday villages. If you are used to 5* then maybe it would disappoint but then you get what you pay for. It was hygienic, the staff helpful and We found something we wanted at every meal. The only criticism I would make was the lack of manners of parents who think it is waiting staff's job to pick up the food their babies have thrown on the floor. No criticism of the hotel. As to the staff of the hotel - again totally disagree with the previous poster. I found them very friendly. If you make the effort with someone it is usually reciprocated. Especially if you try a little Portuguese. We left the hotel every day early evening and headed to Praia Maria Luisa or Santa Eulalia, both of which had a wonderful bar and restaurant. Maria Luisa is wonderful and worth a trip for lunch or a drink as the sunsets. A wonderful spot and less than 15 minute walk. Holiday villages are geared to making children happy on the basis that of the kids are having a good time so are the parents. Therefore any quibbles about the quality of entertainment in the evenings has to be taken in this context. Nearly every adult is a parent and in charge of children so the entertainment has to find that middle ground. That said we had a couple of great nights watching entertainment but it wasn't my priority with kids in tow. We had a great holiday. More
One of the best holidays we have had, everything was perfect. The entertainment team work so hard always ensuring everyone is having a good time. I would also like to mention Josh who was always very helpful ! Thank you Holiday Village ! More
